mary,

my dad 70 has erractic blood pressure and hearty arrthymias sp?? especially

durig his parkinsonian symptoms, the cardiologist discovred this when daddy

was hosp in may. we have tried many things for the swelling of the feet, i dont

remember what the word is for this but i will describe it and have one of our

nurses tell us the medical terms, dads heart can pump blood to his legs and

arms, but the veins cannot transport blood back up out of legs and that is

why his feet swell.

so we tried keeping his feet elevated but he couldnt stand that not even for

just 15 minutes 3-4 times a day ,so i put lotion on his legs whenever he lets

me, i try several times a day but often it might be several days before he

lets me, but i notice that the more restless his legs are at night the less

swollen his legs so i guess there is a positive reason for restless leg

syndrome.

thought this info might help. sharon m

a smile a day keeps the meanies away!!!

Sharon-

My mother's legs also swelled from edema starting with her ankles

and going halfway up to her knee. A vascular surgeon suggested

wrapping her legs snuggly with Ace bandages starting from the foot

and going up to just below the knee. The bandage should be very

snug, but not too tight. This helped a lot and relieved the pain,

which he said was caused by the edema stretching the skin. This leg-

wrapping is a common treatment, used especially for people with

diabetes who have swelling and poor circulation in the legs. This

might help.

Sharon that is sooo funny. I had forgotten about that also. But they

do help. It is just they are so hot and uncomfrotable I won't wear

them unless the swelling is really bad. Personally I never liked

Panty hose either, but did wear them when I had to. Have you tried

the kneehigh ones I have had alot of men that would wear them as they

are more like mens knee high socks worn under boots....Hugs...Patti
