Guest guest
Hi, I've posted once...my 8 y/o son was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, OCD, and ADD about a month ago. During the Christmas break, his symptoms have lessened considerably. We even made a 2 night trip to Portland, OR and had a great time. Sometimes, I wonder if the diagnosis is correct since most of his symptoms are pretty mild. Then we have a big flare-up of temper over something, or he has trouble obsessing about something. And I read about other's experiences with OCD and see similar traits in Evan - counting, asking the same questions over and over, etc... I've seen several posts about nighttime being very difficult. Last night my husband changed the batteries in our smoke detectors and one was set off. So, before bedtime, Evan (who usually wants someone to lie down with him and give him a backrub) was anxious about the house catching on fire. We prayed for safety and he was able to settle down. He did wake up around midnight wanting someone to sleep with him again. One thing that has helped both our kids settle down is to play story tapes in their rooms. They both love " Hank the Cowdog " tapes - very funny! Maybe listening to them night after night is an " obsession " , but they usually listen to one side which is about 30 minutes a night. The stories help to keep their minds absorbed while they are relaxing and falling asleep. Just a thought.... This board has been a godsend! Guest guest
Hi Teri, my daughter (almost 9) often gets to take a " vacation " from OCD during school breaks and actual vacations when we travel, which we all enjoy. I'm not sure why this happens since in general the " routine " of school is organizing for her and lowers her overall anxiety. I wanted to second your suggestion of story tapes at bedtime. We've used these on and off over the past few years with a lot of success, and in fact my daughter first began falling asleep without someone in the room with her, while listening to taped stories. I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned, I'll have to check it out :-) Kathy R. in Indiana ----- Original Message ----- From: TTDav@...
