Guest guest
Hello to all, this site was found by a friend and was reccommended as a resource to learn more about this disease and it's affects. I decided to give it a shot. I am overwhelmed by the amount of compassion and understanding in this group. It is simply wonderfu. Sometimes you go to support groups and there is competition and jealousy and it seems to undermine the whole purpose of the site. I am happy to announce I do not find that here. This is what I call a true support group. You have been the greatest everyone of you and I don't really you all yet, but hope there is time that we can become better aquainted. Sometimes it is easier to talk to strangers than it is to talk to those you love. For me it is as I alsways feel as though I am burdening them. so just you being here as a sounding board is wonderful. Also there are times that I am going to be curious about things and want to ask someone a question. those who have not experienced this have no idea what to say and it depresses them as they don't feel they can help you. You are a little more knowledgeable and understanding and so I feel you could answer my questions better as you have dealt with it to one degree or another. I don't want you to pull any punches. I am not afraid of death, but I am afraid of this disease and it's affects on loved ones so in my own minds eye perhaps it could ehlp me to be a better patient so to speak. I will probably go through pahses of denial I am sure of that as I have done so with the Parkinsons more than once. I was going to say something else , but now I forgot as I am trying not to forget some questions I would like to ask. So I will ask them: Has there been any experiences with severe headaches, Migraine or cluster type? Was there a history of low blood pressure or Hypoglycemia(low blood sugar)? Was there a history of hormonal difficulties early in life? Was there a history of hyperactivity or anxiety as a child? Was there ever a diagnosis of Bi-Polar? You may not know the answer to these, but if you do and could answer them I would appreciate it. Thank you ....Patti
Guest guest
HI Patti, I'm happy to answer these questions and any others you may have. >>Has there been any experiences with severe headaches, Migraine or >cluster type? Mom used to have headaches on and off but nothing that resembled a pattern. Mom had depression for years before we got a dx of LBD with her first fall. > >Was there a history of low blood pressure or Hypoglycemia(low blood >sugar)? Mom has high blood pressure and did have even before her dx. > >Was there a history of hormonal difficulties early in life? No in early life but she was on HRT for a few years there. > >Was there a history of hyperactivity or anxiety as a child? I can't really say but I'm going to ask my uncles about this. Mom had anxiety as an adult (which I inherited and my daugther has inherited from me - learned behaviour or genetic? Who knows for sure). I remember her being a tremendous worrier too. Can't say that mom was hyperactive but she could work anyone down to their knees - she could never just sit still - I have this problem too - yikes! > >Was there ever a diagnosis of Bi-Polar? No dx of Bi-Polar but I've often felt that my mother had emotional problems that have gone un-dx'd. This one is a hard one cause I feel that as humans we can be Bi-polar at times but perhaps not off the charts as true Bi-Polars experience....does that make any sense to anyone? > >You may not know the answer to these, but if you do and could answer >them I would appreciate it. Thank you ....Patti > >It was my pleasure and thank you for being here with us. Courage > > >Welcome to LBDcaregivers. > > >

Guest guest
Hi Sharon m, I have had hormonal problems all my life. I started havng severe headaches in my teens to the point I would beat my head against the headboard or wall to get rid of them. It never helped and an aspirin or tylenol didn't even touch them. Eventually I would go to sleep from tears and tiredness and it would be gone. They started out as something that was very infrequent, but there were periods of my life when they would be a daily thing. I was happy when they came out with Imitrex injections as I felt like it was a miracle drug and it kept me functioning. The headache would be always relieved within 30 minutes and gone within an hour. There is not enough study done in this area either, but I think they are working on it. As I look back though I feel the that in my case the hormones had something to do with the headaches. Up until the last year my B/P has run low extremely low at times, however I seemed to handle it physically well most of the time. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia and was put on a diet, but I think that it was weight related as I was very thin at the time and had recent quick weight loss. I have found that with extra weight I do not have the problem so much or at least not that it is that noticeable. My B/P now runs on the low side of high, but has been consitent. I have found recently that there again it doesn't take that much medication to bring it down again. I don't know exactly when it started, but for some time now I have had a problem with a noticeable amount of difference in my left anf right side. also my B/P has a tendency to come real close like only 2 points difference between the lower and upper figures. At those times my upper pressure reading was low, but the diastolic was high or they werre both low, but close. Although I was concerned the Dr. did not seem to be all that concerned. These variations in B/P readings I do not understand, but knew I was having autonomic problems with the PD so figured it was that. Wehn I went to the neurologist it was fine. I was checked for hypostatic hypertension and that was positive and always figured part of the reason for falls. I also had a year or so of vertigo that seemed to have cleared up on it's own. I was falling then as well. I don't know that there is any relationship and doubt that there is any except for possibly the Headaches and the hormones. I don't know though that any of that has naything to do with this. Just curious. I wouldn't worry about it. When I get a headache now it is of a different nature than before...hmmmmm Isn't that interesting.....Hugs....Patti BTW my mother had Hyperglycemia that seemed to be weight related. Since I have gained so much weight in the past two years I have been watching for this change, but it has not manifested itself as of yet. My grandmother was a diabetic and died as a result of it. She also had what then they diagnosed as senility. > patti, to the best of my knowledge daddy was not effected by any of your > quesations, no headaches to speak or, etc. however, i have migraines, > hypoglycemia low blood pressure and hormonal difficulties as a child, ugh, thats > scrary. sharon m > > a smile a day keeps the meanies away!!! > > >
