Guest guest
Hi Kirk, Yes sir, I had the pains that would like to move from side to side and all around. My wrists and fingers got so bad that the only way I could open a door knob was with one of those rubbler strap "miracle wrench" I think they call it. Could not open a jar of anything, unless the lid was left loose. I am an avid fly fisherman and I could not fish because my shoulders and arms and wrists were hurting so darn bad. And just try and keep balance on slippery rocks in a Montana river with swelled up knees and feet and ankles. I resorted to a folding chair and a "winch" (rod and reel), and "garden hackle" (worms and bait) to fish with. I could not sit at my tying desk and tie a fly again untill this last spring. I was looking at my high dollar fly rod and thinking about just using it like a cane pole. "NOT". Dan Pain "Relocation" question & update Hi everyone & sorry I have been rather quiet of late. I have been very busy with work & my oldest son playing mini football. I have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of pain I have been feeling, but that is only part of the problem. My question is if anyone or everyone else has noticed their pain changes up in regards to where it will hurt the most from day to day, week to week, etc. For the longest time the majority of my pain stemmed from my headaches (no change there :-( .....) and my legs (knees, ankles, feet * hips) but now I have had my lower back literally immobilize me at times, my neck burn and hurt like hell, my elbows, wrists and shoulders have also caused me a ton of agony. My wrists, ankles and knees also swell a lot more often and to a much higher degree, The weird part is that for a few days last week my shoulders and elbows hurt so bad I could not lift my arms above my head without sharp, shooting pains. Than one day.........WHAM.....gone. They feel decent now save for some slight pain, and the swelling around my elbows is down. The day they stopped killing me, my hips started to emanate that deep, irritating soreness. It wasn't a shooting pain, more like a consistent pain. As of yesterday, my hips have not been as bad, but my quadriceps (front of legs) have been burning and the insides of my knees have literally made me want to cut my damn legs off. Well, I only hope tonight is bearable, as I have a night fishing tournament at a lake I absolutely despise. Last year I fell out of the boat and into 54 degree water with a nice heavy winter jacket on, thermal underwear, three layers of clothes and boots....thank God I am a real good swimmer. I also lost a 3 day old rod & reel ($150.00) at this same lake last summer. I have sucked all year in these tournaments as I usually can't even stand up to fish due to my legs "going out", yet I am still in range of the top 7, who fish for the championship. I need a few big ol' Bass tonight, and have to rely on this dump of a lake to make it happen. At least the tournaments on "my" River are coming up in the next month!!! Have a good one. Kirk. P.S. If no one hears from me by Monday night, I may be an anchor....with all of the "luck" I have had up this dump it wouldn't surprise me. Guest guest
Kirk..I'm no expert at this, but I just know how it goes for me. I think our "Icon" .....THE DRAGON says it all. The pain travels where ever whenever it wants, for me that's how it goes anyway. I just had a bout with that BAD lower back pain and right hip pain. Went and got a cortisone shot from my RD yesterday. The pain has dissipated a bit today. Was able to walk more today. I sure hope you get some relief soon. And as for me I'm waiting for some also.....LOL Smiles, Carey PS>>I'm glad to hear that you might make it to the Philly conference!!
Guest guest
I can relate to the having to "get off of my game plan" in regards to fishing. I mainly throw three things, topwater, jigs of all sorts and rubber worms. I can manage about 5-8 casts with topwater lures before my wrists tell me to get bent from all of the twitching and "tip jerking" topwaters require to "walk" on the water. Jigs & worms are much easier on me, but do to the pain, I take pain meds. Due to the pain meds, my senses are off, and I know I have missed a ton of fish I would have caught had I been my old self. Top it off with the overall inability to stand up at all in a boat and it makes one hell of a recipe for one incredibly disgusted fisherman. I think I would be fine in a boat if it never moved, but the constant weight shifting is what does me in. This has happened on calm water though also, so I have no answers. I have no balance problems standing still on land, but can't walk without an ever increasing limp. I was ready to "give up" this year after the 2nd tournament but have a great group of guys in my club that simply bring me on their boat as a rider instead of watching me get P.O.'d at the world in my own. Just working the trolling motor foot pedal was enough to swell my ankle to death after one hour during our second tournament. I still have had many more bad days than good tournament and health wise, but the river tournaments (3 of them) that I am always the favorite in are coming up. The thing that might hammer me on these is that my partner for the river tourneys is atrocious at running the front of the boat, and the front of the boat (trolling motor/wind/current) is what I can't do right now. I have already told him I will sooner tie my boat to a tree limb rather than let him have the front! I already have had the worst year in my life and losing the river tournaments would be akin to kicking a man while he is down. They are the only ones I have ever won, and believe me, I am hard to beat there, winning the last one by over 4 lbs over 2nd place, who was also in my boat. I can also relate to the "tying" ones' own lures, as I used to make over 100 jigs a year for myself. My hands aren't that bad, but trying to tie anything with a headache is damn near impossible. I have to get you into Bass fishing man, "Dem Dare Trouts" don't fight hard enough for me, although you do have some awesome trout waters out in your neck of the woods. Kirk.
