Guest guest
, There is a lot of talk of not being able to smell. When they got to Mom after she said she was not feeling well, (she was in WI and I am in MI) they told me the house was full of gas!! Lucky she did not explode or burn up. I will never know if her mind could not process the smell or if she did not smell it. She often complained when I smoked long time age, and I was aware she never said a word the whole time she lived with me. She was not short on words if she was unhappy, so I was struck with the fact she never complained. She did complain of her taste being gone and I do not think smell is far behind taste. But I have read several Med. articles that they are testing the smell test for Alzheimers. That is all I know. Donna R Do you want to read more about Lewy Body? Guest guest
> <snip> > > What I'm really asking is how is their sense of smell. > > <snip> , My Mother has had a poor sense of smell for over 10 years, probably more like 20. She has trouble smelling flowers, natural gas, and just about everything else. Occasionally, she will smell something. Was it a early symptom of LBD, who knows? I guess if I start having trouble sensing odors as I age, I'll be worried that I too am getting LBD. in Dallas (Texas that is) Happy Holidays to Y'all
Guest guest
Hi, , Good to see your name here. I am way behind on things, too. Just wanted you to know that my dad has had a poor sense of smell for as long as I can remember. It just really rang a bell with me when you asked that question. Sending you and best wishes for a happy Holiday Season! Love and hugs, Piper
Guest guest
Hi , I'm also behind with emails but trying to keep up with the current ones while reading some of the older ones. I haven't heard anything about studying loss of smell/taste in connection with dementia but I have read that the loss of smell/taste is a common symptom with Parkinson's people. There is a study going on to see if there is any connection with nose problems earlier in life and Parkinson's. I believe that a couple of months ago Patti forwarded the questions that Dr. Lieberman was asking for the study. I can probably track down more if you are interested. Take care. Guest guest
Hello I am new to this group. My husband was diagnosed in 2003 with Parkinsons and then in 2004 with LBD. We have been married for 51 years. He has always complained that he has a low sense of smell. He attributed it to his taking high school chemistry. I have a lot more questions about how everyone is handling this awful disease, lo and caregivers. Will get my thoughts together and write again.
