Guest guest Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Hi all, I know it's been awhile since I've posted and I choose not to post my DS on FB since most ppl do NOT know about the DS so I am grateful this group is still going. I had horrifically painful gas and bloating approx 2 yrs post DS. I live out of state so a local surgeon performed the partial colectomy which helped temporarily. Dr k thought that did not have enough intestine removed during the first partial colectomy so dr k performed a 2nd partial colectomy and I am still in pain everyday. I have tried everything from probiotics to enzymes to flagyl to not eating at all. Nothing helps. Hope everyone has had better results than I with surgery for redundant Colon. Guest guest Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Juls, So sorry to hear your experience has been so bad, I too had a redundant colon and had surgery done by Dr. Z ( Dr. K's old partner) After being in pain for over 1 year I finally got relief. My issue with gas and bloating can be traced to how much or lack of protien I eat. The more protien I eat the better the outcome. Currently I use 6 Star Whey Protien, for some reason I am gaining weight at an incredable fast pace that makes no sense when put together with what I eat. I would LOVE to be 117 pounds again, my lowest was 113 My husband came up with a Barley and Quinoa mix to relpace rice. He fry's each grain to remove the starch, then cook each till done and mix together. I have him make large batches so I can freeze some for nights we do not want to cook. The process takes about an hour. I had my TT about 6 months ago ang when I get gas or bloat it hurts so bad, I am writhing in agony, I am sure you can relate! I wish you all the best in resolving this issue. Best, Renie . Hope everyone has had better results than I with surgery for redundant Colon. Guest guest Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 This thread is scaring the bejeebies out of me! I have a 2 hr consult set up with a Bariatric surgeon at the U of U med center on Friday to begin steps to treat the gas, bloat, " writing in pain " ! It's not sounding like anyone is really receiving any relief from having major colon surgery?!!! I do pretty well on a gluten free, lactose free, sugar free kind of diet (it stinks to live that way but oh well....what can I do?!) but can have random bad reactions without a clue what the trigger was. It's so hard to chart a safe plan when traveling, staying in people's homes on occasion, going to evening gatherings (mine is definitely worse in the evening as it builds during the day)! Pretty " crappy " life:( Do you feel like the tradeoffs for the weight loss are worth it? I get in a super funk about it sometimes. I used to be the biggest cheerleader for WLS (DS) but ...... pain is pain and it doesn't sound like there's any fix! OK...that was my Debbie downer moment for the day! LOL! ... I'll snap out of it! ...I'll go to the appt on Friday (Dr. K recommended going local - Utah) and I won't sign anything until I process what the surgeon tells me on Friday and til I run it past Dr. K! Happy 4th to all of you!!! Joyce in UT Quote

Guest guest Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Omg Joyce, I sooo feel for you, I went through something similar, bloating, no BM control, nausea, vommiting, headaches, redundant colon/cowel, 2 kinks. I am now pain free, just limit carb and fat intake and things seem to be back to normal since bowel surgery with dr k. Hope you find the answer you need at your consultation. The best of luck to you, will definitely keep you in my prayers.ShearySent from my iPhone This thread is scaring the bejeebies out of me!
