Lip balm

Sure, it can be remelted. I make my lip balm in a huge batch and just

portion it out as I need it. I find the easiest way for me to fill my tubes

is to melt it and then pour it into a plastic dixie cup (not the wax coated

paper ones) so that I can squeeze it and use it like a spout.

Can lip balm (premixed, and fragrance and color added) be remelted

if it dries up during the pour? Is there anyway to avoid this? I

Hi ,

Someone was telling me that liq. stevia does not mix with oils/butters. Is this

true? Can you tell us what phase to mix it with?

Well, theoretically, it doesn't because the stevia is usually in glycerine

and the balm is all oils (although I have heard of people finding stevia in

oil). But, if you add it after you add your flavoring and stir until your

balm starts to cool down, it will stay suspended in the balm (you can

actually see the little droplets in the balm.

What has also worked for some people (but this isn't how I do it) is to mix

it with the balm and continue to stir until it solidifies. Then remelt and

supposedly it stays suspended better after the remelt.

Hi Jeanie,

Most often the liquid food flavorings contain either water or alcohol

and would not work in a lip balm. I would recommend using just the

flavor oils specifically designed for use in lip products.

I've made a lip balm using actual chocolate chips that was a big hit with

the kids. I've also tried using flavorings made for candy (like truffles),

and in my experience, it doesn't work very well. I haven't tried using any

actual extracts though. Would be interested to see if anyone else has and

how well it worked.

Hi Jeanie:

Unless the liquid food flavorings are oil based or the paste kind,(Wilton makes

these) they will separate from your lip balm. Basically the grocery store

flavorings are alcohol and water based. I have had it happen.

Most of these are alcohol or water based. However, if they are oil

based, then they are safe to use.

If it is for candy-making, and is meant for human consumption, then it

should be safe to use in lip balm. Will the scent and flavor carry

through? It should, since it's meant to be used in candy.

I'd give it a try.

Hi Jill

Be very careful with anything Cinnamon in bath and

body. If it has cinnamon oil of cinnamic aldehyde do

not you it. It will burn the skin. Especially the

lips. Not all flavors can be used in cosmetics.

Hi Jill,

Just make sure that they are not water based. If they contain water, they

won't mix well with the oils/butters/waxes in you lip balm.

I was at hobby lobby and saw several candy flavor oils. I bought them

thinking the same as you. When I posted this question on 2 forums,

they told me make sure the ingredients didn't have alcohol or

glycerin/water in them. Welllll, no ingredients listed so I emailed

the manufacturer. They wouldn't release the ingredients or even

answer if either of those two were in the ingredients. It was

confidential info.

I still have mine sitting in a tub with some of my other supplies. If

you decide to try it, let me know how it turns out. I just haven't

gotten around to testing them to see what happens.

I don't know about any candy flavor oils, but I have used LorAnn flavor oils

in edible body products and it works just fine for me.

that is real odd that no ingredients were listed and manufacture wont tell you

umm and we have to list our ingredients on cosmetics i think a product actually

meant for food should have to list theirs let me know tho if u do it

Hi Jami,

I believe it is the Law that they have to release an MSDS to any

customer that requests this information. I think by not giving you

this info they are breaking the law. I am not sure where I read this

but I am pretty sure they MUST release that info. Its related to a

consumer protection law that says consumers have the right to know

brings a lot of questions to my mind...

what was the reason for not using glycerin in lip

balm?

you could use honey and EO's usually at 1-3% is safe.

That's scary about being refused even confirmation on

what's in

their product...

If it's oil based, you should be able to use it just fine in lip balm

Well done for getting rid of the chap aid ...

You are correct you don't want to use anything with gender bending parbens

or

saccharin in so that is Tea Tree Defense out as you said.

Of the 2 you listed with ingredients, the Berry one is not good because of

the soybean oil, castor oil and Oxybenzone (3%).

The eco lips gold one.. if that are definitely ALL the ingredients then it

appears

ok. I haven't used it so couldn't answer if it is effective or not. Since

you

have stated you have read the previous posts about lip balm then you

will be aware of what I do know is effective and works well.

Hi Ellen,

I use Vitamin E oil which is excellent for dry lips and I use it on my skin as

well. I use the brand " Invite E " . I tried another brand and it wasn't as good (I

think it was derived from soy).

Hi Ellen, yes Eoc -Lips is a good lip balm i use the eco-lips lysine

and tea tree and the eco-lips hemp is a good one it stays on for awhile.

Two lip balms that i " love " are the Badger Unscented organic lip

balm, and the Dr. Bronner's and Sun dog Naked organic lip

balm,..(These two are great , very moisterizing and they are both

organic.
