Hi Debra, I don't know where you heard the negative things about Dr. K, but

I can bet that you won't hear any here. Not that I know of anyway. I am four

years out, down 170 pds, from 333, so I am very happy. You do what the doc

says and the binder says and you won't have anything bad to say either. You are

going to have a very exciting new life. Look forward to it. Sure it is not

all going to be totally easy. Different people have different reactions. Just

don't stock up on stuff, like protein drinks and stuff like that. Your tastes

surprisingly will change a lot. What you like today you may hate tomorrow.

So take each day as a present and just enjoy it. Don't go looking for bad

things. Look for a new and exciting life. I am 69 and I live life. I go and do

a

lot more than I ever thought I would be able to. So just enjoy and make the

best and most of the new ride you are about to go on.

Dr. K is wonderful and so is his staff. I had zero complications and I think

that is almost wholly attributable to his and the hospital staff's care.  I did

go through some " feeling " like others may have; fear, anxious, excited,

remorseful. But all in all it has been positive for me. I've followed the rules

and that helps keep me healthy. Good luck with your surgery. You won't be sorry

for picking Dr. K.

Debra,

Hello, I am also going to be having the surgery on the 20th. Im also very

nervous. I have to kids and I just am scared of what bad things could happen but

everything Ive heard is really good minus when people stop taking their protein

powder and start heading into trouble. My mom had the surgery and it went really

bad, but it wasnt really Dr. Ks fault because she had weight loss surgery once

before and they did it all wrong so when the Dr went in to do this surgery he

had a mess to clean up. She is now doing ok thanks to Dr. K, and many other

health care profesionals. Anyway I just wanted to share my feelings with you

since you are probably feeling just like I am. Its just so close and Im so happy

but scared too. Anyway maybe I will chat with you later.

Debra,

You have a right to be nervous, this is a surgery.  I had complications from my

diabetes that I had no idea I would have.  I should have been more prepared

both mentally and physically but I thought " complications won't happen to me " .

It's good to be prepared.  However, Dr. K is a wonderful doctor and I feel the

aftercare I received through 3 weeks of complications from the diabetes and the

regular 4 years worth of check-ups have been way beyond excellent.  If only Dr

K could be my doctor for EVERYTHING, lol I would be set.

Debra, I have been on this board seven years next month. I have never heard

anything negative about Dr. Keshishian. I researched the DS and Dr. K for three

years before I had the surgery in February of 2005. I knew Elle and watched her

progress and there is no one more cautious or who researches more than she did.

My only hesitation was why would such an excellent surgeon be in such a small

town and was I willing to go there when it was so far from home. It was one of

the most important decisions of my life. It enabled me to have both my knees

replaced at the same time 18 months later. I feel great, my labs are good, I

have energy and after 12 years of being pretty immobile I can keep up with

anyone. AND I am 66 years old. I have followed up with a tummy tuck and

brachioplasty a year ago last October and on the day you are having the DS -

Inaugural Day - you will be like the country and starting a new beginning that

will bring new changes, and I will be having a thigh lift at the same time in

Bellevue, WA. It is okay to be nervous. Good luck.

Debra and

The two of you are going to have to challenge each other to " hall

races " when you are post-op! lol.

*It's normal..human..SANE to be nervous before surgery...mixed in

with some excitement that your tomorrows are going to be a new lease

on life.

*I personally have had Zero complications. But complications DO

happen. They are not a death sentence, just a bump in the road.

*I felt like I was run over by a bus and then it backed up over me

for good measure after surgery. It hurt to walk (but I did it

anyway). After surgery it wasn't so much a big HURT pain..more like

a misery, weary kind of pain. I couldn't sleep laying down for 2

months. I used a recliner. My butt hurt more than anything after a

week from sitting and sleeping on it. EXHUSTION is what I remember

most those first 2 months post-op.

*When I came home from the hospital...an egg was more food than I

could eat at one time...I celebrated! I thought it was soo cool that

I couldn't even finish eating an egg without being stuffed.

*Folks can get depressed very easy during the recovery period.

Expect it...and work to fight it. Keep social with family and

friends. Walk daily and often (exercise helps) Get out in the sun

as often as possible. Try to resume your normal chores and life as

soon as possible. It helps when you get back to living your life. I

not saying that it is a given you will get depressed (I didn't) Just

don't be surprised and if it does then you know it is a normal

happening and you just have to work thru it.

*I think I might have a clue as to where the neg. things about Dr. K

are coming from. Folks are entitled to their opinion and their

experience. Unfortunately Dr. K can't meet EVERY single persons

needs/wants 100% of the time. Nor can his office staff. But I can

honestly say " he tries " . So, if you ever have a Complaint...Talk to

him and have realistic expectations.

I'm almost 8 years post-op. And to this date...Dr. K has honored

every bit of the promise he made to me about my aftercare and his

skill as a surgeon...and I have kept my part of the bargain too by

taking my supplements, eating my protein, getting a bit of exercise

and doing my follow-up labs. I encourage you to take advantage of

any support meetings you can go to. (Being a part of this group is a

form of Support.) Reading the newsletters on the www.dssurgery.com

site. Also available there is a chance to ask questions to be

answered by Dr. K himself. You can also take advantage of learning

from the questions others have asked. KNOWLEDGE and action is what

will keep you healthy for years to come.

Hope this helps...keep asking questions!

Hugs

Jo

Who had the negative things to say? Was it one person or two? What

was their motivation?

I had DS surgery by Dr. K. in March 2008 at age 75. To say it was

successful and that I am very happy would be an understatement. He is

a first-class DS surgeon and it ticks me off that people who don't know

what they're talking abou make " negative " comments. It's not that I

don't believe you, but......

I wish I can remember what web sight I had came across so that I may

share it with those who keep asking me who and what was said about

Dr.K. Though to me It doesn't matter who and what they said about him,

what matters to me now is that I decided to let DR.K do my surgery

cause I trust him, I don't know him personally or should I say I

haven't known him for long. I did meet with him to talk about my

surgery and what step to take next. I have been in this group for a

while and all I hear is positive feed back and that's what I like to

hear. Yes I have been reading everything good about him right here in

this group I just never added or join anyone's conversation all I did

was observed and listen to what everyone had to say... and I still do

and I will always look and observe to see peoples progress...

Thanks to all who responded Until later stay healthy

Sincerely Debra
