Take heart if things don't go well, it took my son three attempts and two driver

school courses, but he did it!!!

Driver's test today

Okay, wish us luck today. Josh is going in to take his driver's test

this afternoon. I'm hoping his anxiety doesn't get the best of him.

I'm hoping we come home with a license. )

These milestones for our kids are always tougher than it is for the

average kid.

Well, he passed with a 96. The lady told him he was one of three who

passed all day long. Most failed, which kind of freaked me out.

Now the hard part comes. Letting him out of my sight to drive. @@

Congratulations to Josh!!

I'm trying to recall how I handled that with my 2 who got licenses,

letting them out alone! Hang in there!

I see that with Josh too, LT. Questioning, questioning. . Lots of

doubts. He knows which way to go to get to certain places, yet still

asks and need (his word) " confirmation " . I'm hoping as he learns his

way around more he will overcome it.

, my oldest took at least 3 attempts too (no OCD either). It

was either the 3rd or 4th try he passed. I also failed first time

and got it the 2nd. Another son did manage his 1st try.

, 19, still no license. He lost interest in driving until

last year and though I do let him drive, we don't " go " enough for him

to get much practice. And lately he seems worse when driving. I've

had to grab the wheel at least 3 times the past month; unusual.

He'll pass on driving though when his OCD is bothering him. I think

it's the Aspergers side of him that is the problem, that and, like a

typical teen, doesn't want to listen to my " directions " LOL.

Congrats to Josh!!! So nice to hear good news. Hard not to worry,

it is a big step, but I'm guessing your son, with ocd on board, might

be the cautious type? So, that probably influences his driving too?

Anyway, just thinking he's probably a better driver than most because

of it, if you know what I mean.

OCD is actually coming in a bit handy for a change. lol

Got to appreciate the positive aspects where you can, right?!. I'm

so happy our teen can't swear, smoke, drink, do drugs, or have sex

due to scrupulosity ocd. God to love that one!!! On the other hand

I feel bad for him that he can't at least have a bit of normal teen

antics. He will only say frig, which I've adopted too. " Friggin

ocd " , is a favorite of mine, or was, now it is not to be referred to

by name, or at all if possible. The rules....

Don't feel too bad, Barb. Some of those normal teen antics will kill

you nowadays. Sad, but true. It's sure a different world from what

we grew up in.

As far as me? I'm doing okay. I just put one foot in front of the

other, like most of us. Good days and bad. Less bad lately

(OCD-wise), and I'm thankful for that. But, I'm always waiting for

" something " to stop working. You know. . Always waiting for the other

shoe to drop, syndrome. I think many of us feel like that. OCD

trains you to be that way. Just the last couple of days Josh was

really quiet, and I got a sinking feeling in my stomach, but he claims

he is fine, just tired. It was like a BIG " phew " .

I always have my own health issues, but try to make the best of them.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Don't give up. I keep hoping

you will find something that really helps.

Barb, LOL, I've picked up " friggin " too from my older son, that

and " crap! " Not that he hasn't slipped and said other words around me,

but those are his words when I'm around.

Hi BJ,

Know what you mean about waiting for that other shoe to drop, goes

with the ocd territory doesn't it? We really can't believe the

change in our son, and keep waiting for things to shift back. After

begging to have medications reduced or removed for months, finally

his just going off on his own seems to have brought us some clarity.

As always time will tell, but it's almost not to be believed.

Yesterday he was polite, kind, friendly, interested in others, in

short the kid we used to know before ocd, and esp before drugs; and

he was NOT reactive, angry, or weird(for lack of a better

descriptive), all the stuff we just got used to dealing with every

day, just gone.

So I go back to my original thought, aliens came in the night and

switched our son!!! I'll keep this one though. There is no

explanation for this. You would not think that 5mg of celexa could

affect this change and we've changed nothing else. It's a mystery,

but one we'll embrace.
