Hi Di

This is a whole new learning experience ain't it! I can only pass

on to you my experiences. The feeling in the throat is the feeling

of fullness, weird I know. In pre-band days when I overate I would

undo my skirt to relieve pressure on my tummy - these days I undo my

bra!

And the worst thing one can do as a bandster after they've filled

their pouch is to lie down. The food/liquid needs to travel south

and my experience is laying down in a big no-no. I've always felt a

bit cheated in that regard - I've always enjoyed flopping in the

front the tele at night after a meal - not now, I stay upright for

some time or it causes discomfort. If you have just eaten but want

to rest prop yourself up on pillow on your bed so your top half is

upright. Bandsters usually can't afford to have dinner too late, or

go to bed too early, as the food needs to goes down some first.

Are you sipping - using a straw can help, and pace yourself. Don't

have your full quantity of soup, etc all at once - hang out a load of

washing, or something, as you go. The microwave will become your

best friend. You need to sip and eat slowly so you'll always be re-

heating things.

If you're over full usually time is what settles things but walking

around is usually more comfortable than sitting. If you're blocked

(when on solids) walking can definitely help - particularly if you

put in hands in the air, or stretch hanging onto the top of the

doorway! We bandsters do funny things.

You'll probably be aware of the wound where your port has been

placed for some time and it can sting in the early stages when you

bend over.

If you've no pain it would appear things are fine with you. It's a

steep learning curve at the beginning, be patient and cautious and

you'll soon learn what your body is telling you.

Hope this has helped.

Good luck

Lorraine

I would call an IEP meeting to discuss this issue and to insure that it does not happen again.

To: autism-aspergers Sent: Tuesday, September 20, 2011 4:34 PMSubject: Advice Please

My seven year old son told me he had a rough afternoon. I have copied and pasted the email I received from school (his teacher) below:" had difficulty with math today. He did not focus on the lesson or complete the written work. He moaned to the point that it disturbed the other children, so Mrs. F went with him to Mr. B's office. He said he wanted to be alone. Mrs. F sat with him and then, when he stopped moaning and quietly crying, he came back to the classroom. He had a few minutes to do some of the assignment, but did not. He did a couple problems after school that were on the SmartBoard and brought the classwork assignment home to complete along with the regular homework."He usually goes to his room for "alone time" and to take a break when he is upset/overwhelmed by something. He has a rather long math period and I think that may be part of the problem. Also, the math is too easy for him. All my son told me was that he

was bored and it made him upset. So my question is why didn't they take him out of the room before the moaning escalated? Argghhh. Or, do you think he just needs to control his behavior better? Haha...that's kind of how the teacher feels I believe. Mrs. F, by the way, is his aide.
