Do you remember Sue Widemark?

Hey those of us who have been around a long time.

Do you remember Sue Widemark? The one that drove Magruder to

the brink of murder because Sue was Bashing all wls and the DS

especially. Sue was claiming a much lower weight than her photos and

anyone with a brain could see was a lie. Sue claimed " all it takes

is a reasonable diet and exercise "

Well I was floating around and saw she had posted on a list that her

weight was continuing to creep up (267) despite diet and exercise.

She wrote within a post to a gal who was struggling with a failed RNY:

In retrospect, the DS/BPD would have been best bypass procedure (for

anyone)

(and Sue wrote:)

I have come to appreciate the DS/BPD as an excellent surgery but it

took

years of research, and getting close and friendly with a very fine WLS

surgeon, to learn about it.

Wow...Time and Sue's personal Battle with obesity has sure changed

her thinking! I just found it interesting that Sue who was like

Chicken Little running around saying the Sky is Falling (in

connection to WLS, especially the DS) has really changed her attitude.

Hugs

Jo

I remember her. She was definitely in into the scare tactics and I

hated when people found her website and assumed that was the 'truth'

about weight loss surgery. I'm glad that she's done her research and

it sounds like she's contemplating WLS herself, but it's sad that

she's wasted so many years battling her weight and I also feel sad

about the number people she scared away from having WLS. It's one

thing to do research and be armed with the facts, which I feel is

imperative since this is a major life decision, but Sue always seemed

to be more about propaganda than rational and balanced facts.

I may want to lose more weight, but I'm glad I didn't spend the past 5

years, struggling to lose an extra 150+ lbs and instead I'm bemoaning

the standard 20-30 lbs that it seems like a lot of women want to lose.

Thanks for letting us know.

*hugs*

Kristy,

Are you going to be at the Sept meeting? I can switch my plans from

August to Sept if you and are going to be there!

I thought some of you oldies would get a kick out of Sue's change of

attitude. For a couple years she was reluctantly supporting the

Adjustable lap band as safe and effective.

Soooo sad...our weight has gone down and hers continued to climb. She

is around 62-63 years old now. " WE " know she is still young enough

to take control and have the DS...but I would be VERY surprised if

she ever actually made the leap.

As Nick said...she believed we would all be stone cold dead by now.

Over the 6plus years since I had surgery there have been some

deaths. But I'd bet, if you added the numbers..the percentage of

deaths would probably be higher if All the folks who chose surgery

had just remained obese instead.

Hey as more of us get further and further post-op...we continue to

convince the Sue Widemarks and the Negative attitude Doctors that

perhaps there is something to this DS.

Hugs

Jo
