+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

7 years ago I couldn't get private health insurance. They flat out

refused to cover me after WLS. They would cover my hubby who had

high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and diabeties (on meds for all

three) But me...nope...and I had achieved a normal weight and zero

health issues. Go figure.

They told me " maybe after a few years I could get coverage " . I was

wondering...does anyone know where private health care stands on the

issue of WLS now? Is it worse? Better? The same?

I do have health insurance. What we did was go through our self-

employeed business. We had to have at least one employee.... So,

hubby is the owner and I'm an employee. Because it is a group policy

there are no qualifiers, no rejection, no pre-existing

conditions...but the cost are high.

Hugs

(even if I could afford insurance!)

the benefits.? It is not an option for people with previous medical

conditions (such as the WLS and all the related problems) to get on a

new insurance and be covered for those conditions.? (unless you know

of an affordable plan that does??)

were married legally, and that is never going to happen.? His ex is

still on his insurance (same sort of situation with previous medical

conditions) and they too can not get divorced or she would loose

coverage.

again...all power to you!? I have no job, no income, no safe working

vehicle to drive, two children here sunday through friday that need

supervision before and after school.? I dont qualify for Medi-cal or

assistance.?

mean I could ever get there.? I am glad those who have to fly there

can come up with the resources to do so.? Obviously you think

everyone has the resources and that is simply not the case.? You are

lucky to be only?a few minutes away from Delano as well as making

enough money to own a home and live your life without worrying about

seeking medical care.? Kudos to you!

will simply stop asking for opinions and ideas here. The DS board is

more than willing to openly discuss problems and help people to get

the help they need where they can.? I can see that I am

just 'bothering' you here.? I am not asking you, doc, to diagnose

me.? I was asking for ideas on what to ask the doctors available to

me.

Jo,

I have checked into this several times over the past few years, as I have been

trying to figure out how to get a legal separation or divorce from my ex since

2004.

Each time I have looked into it, I was told by several insurance companies that

I would be able to get coverage for anything that was NOT related to the WLS, or

that they would not cover me at all.

Recently, I consulted with TriWest (the Navy insurance here) and they said I

could remain on my ex's insurance if I got a legal separation, but if we got a

divorce the coverage would discontinue.? They advised me that MOST insurance

companies would not insure me because of the WLS and my Back problems that were

pre-existing conditions.? They told me that some companies 'might' insure me at

a much higher premium.

The last two jobs I worked at had insurance available to employees.? I went to

the representatives of those companies and was told that they would NOT cover

any pre-existing conditions, and since I had many pre-existing conditions it

would not be logical for me to get the insurance unless it was just for

accidents, emergencies (non-related to other pre-existing conditions), or 'well'

checks.

Since I am not currently employable, I find that staying with the Navy insurance

is the best choice at this time.? I am HOPING to get a legal separation by the

end of the year (costs money to do that!).

Has anyone else found insurance companies that will cover pre-existing

conditions?? (One that doesnt cost an arm and a leg every month? LOL!)

I would be curious to know how other WLS patients are handling this issue.
