Guest guest
I spoke to her just now. She’s near Houston, and needed some guidance. Her son is aggressive and all she know about autism is what the pediatrician told her (figure that one out). She juts needed to know what to do. The kid is in ppcd and I gave her some ideas in term of behavior and biomedical paths. Guest guest
Ok. Her name is Cárdenas. She and her husband are from Mexico. They lived about 45 minutes from Houston. They have 4 kids, and (4 y/o) is the third one and as far as she knows he has " autism " . When the boy was younger her ped. referred him to the ECI but because she moved she didn't got him into the program but the therapists told her that he seems like an austistic boy. Now he is in the PPCD program (since august) and the only evaluation they have is from ISD; and because they don't speak english at all the only thing they can understand from all the paperwork is " Autism " (in spanish is autismo, very similar, so coul be anything under the ASD). They have been receiving comunications an letters from autism associations and places where they can ask for help but all are in English. She doesn't know exactly where she found your number she only started dialing the numbers in the letters. She needs orientation and what to do, they want to help their kid but don't know where to start or what to do. I told her to make an appointment with a neurologist first and try to find a spanish spoken one (maybe in Houston is easier than here in Dallas). Well if somebody in that area can help her she would really appreciated. It's hard for them because of the language. If I can do something else please let me know. ina Spanish speaking listmate needed This mom called me and all she could say was " Autism " in English. Guest guest
ina, I'm in Houston and will be glad to help her. My ECI rep through URMB speaks both Spanish and English, so maybe I can get someone to guide her to where she needs to go. My Neurolgist also has a staff member that speaks spanish, which is probably where she needs to go. She will get a medical diagnosis of autism through UT Health Science Center which is what she needs to confirm her child's diagnosis, rather than accepting CCISD. Does she have an email? If she does, I can email her the information, and use babelfish.com to translate my information to Spanish for her and when she replies to me, I can use babelfish.com to translate back to English. It is not the most efficient way, but it will certainly work to get her the information she needs. > > Ok. Her name is Cárdenas. She and her husband are from Mexico. Guest guest
I checked with her and they don't have e-mail. Can you give me the information of the Neurologist so she can call and see if can make an appointment? Do you think that you can email me the information and I can translate it and send it back to her by regular mail?. I know what is struggling with the language (I still have my issues ) and deal with all this new stuff. This is her phone number . Maybe your ECI rep can call and talk to her a little bit......
