This is an interesting case and it seems I am in the minority of people responding to the survey whether I think it was a good decision or not. I do agree with the decision. We have had people on our board who had back injuries through employment comp whose doctors insisted they have the DS or WLS before they did any work on their backs. It makes perfect sense to me. What do you guys think?

Having worked in HR, I can see validity on both sides of this case. However, if

we would get off our hineys in Congress and actually pass a comprehensive

health care bill, guaranteeing health care coverage for EVERY American, then

there wouldn't be a case, would there? This is a perfect argument for a

single-payer, public health care plan. Despite the frantic cries of " socialism "

and " government run health care, " what it would actually do is eliminate any

need for wrangling over who is responsbile for paying for what. The unfortunate

fellow would be covered by insurance and get the operations he needs; workers'

comp need not even be involved. We already have single-payer public plans

covering the elderly, the poor, and the military, and doing a creditable job of

it, too. (I didn't say they were perfect, folks, just darned good.) I hope all

of you who agree with me will write to your Senators and Representatives and

tell them how you feel. Anyway, that's my take on this case.
