Guest guest Posted February 10, 2011 Report Share Posted February 10, 2011 I know we were having problems with our school when our daughter was younger - it wasn't an appropriate environment or education. Because of that, we could demand they send her to another school that was suitable (private school in a nearby town). When I started pushing for that, the school then started to work to put her in the appropriate class, gave her subjects more geared toward what she needed, etc. I know now Maddie is in an RTF and she attends a private school where she is at. The school has to pay for that because keeping her at home was not appropriate (she was destroying the house, beating me up, and refusing to leave, etc.) Is there a way you can prove they aren't providing an appropriate education and they would have to pay? Guest guest Posted February 10, 2011 Report Share Posted February 10, 2011 What state are you in? If your school district is not an appropriate placement for your daughter, they should pay for her to attend a school that will be an appropriate placement for her. With the economy the way it is, schools will do anything to keep students in district. Do you know of any other students in your district that have an out-of-district placement? If so, then there is some hope that you can get an out-of-district placement for your daughter, if your district cannot appropriately service her.. I live in NJ. My daughter went to a private special ed. school from the ages of 3 - 6 yrs. old. My district paid for this. I think its easier to get a younger child placed out-of-district, than an older child. At the time, my daughter was registered with Early Intervention, who referred me to my district's CST to get her evaluated, after she aged out of EI at age 3. With the assistance of my CST case manager, I attempted to enroll my daughter in an inclusion preschool classroom. I really had a desire for her to be around typical children as she is an only child.  I requested a one-on-one aide to be with my daughter. The school district refused. When my daughter had major problems in the preschool inclusion classroom and she was 'politely' thrown out, my district offered to send her to a more intensive program.  I was given a list of possible school placements. I observed each school and chose the one with the best fit for my daughter. It was the private school where she spent 4 years. That was the BEST decision of my life because at that school, she got intensive therapies, lots of community socialization, and a caring school environment. Last year was my daughter's first year in district. I requested that she come into district because they were opening a special needs classroom and I wanted her to have the opportunity to get into the program when it was new and hopefully, learn to interact with typical children. She had some negative behaviors last year, but so far this year, she has only had one incident.   My daughter is dx'd moderate/mild ASD with receptive/expressive speech delays. Karmen private school  This is my first time here.
