Guest guest Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Hi Everyone Last night was terrible for me and other staff at work, cannot tell you full details due to confidentiality, but a client had a severe seizure, resulting in him having no breathing or pulse, the staff called an Emergency Medical Code at 5pm, which I flew up to, we commenced CPR and I performed mouth to mouth on him, it was the longest 10 minutes of my life, till the ambos arrived, he vomited in my mouth twice, but I had to do what I had to do, I am there to prolong life, not stand back and get all precious. 4 ambulances and paramedics arrived, but they were unable to save him, he was pronounced dead at 5.42pm. I had to do counselling and debriefing sessions with all the staff who came to assist, now I am home from work over 2 hours later than I should be due to the paper work I had to do, sadly I have no one to debrief me, so me and a bowl of Ice Cream are having a session, I am OK just upset that even with everything we did, we could not save him. Part of policy is the police must come, the duty office called it a crime scene this was very distressing for us all, after the CSI unit came and investigated they told the constable it was not a crime scene, and congratulated us for what we had done, they could see nothing untoward had happened to the gentleman except the seizure, but the upset and distress had been caused. Well I gotta go to work now, don;t want to but I have the next 2 off which are welcome, I am going to see a movie with Mazz and Baileigh on Friday Hugs Rob No virus found in this outgoing message.
