Guest guest
Hi Andie Ny daughter, now 12 1/2 has had behavioral issues since she was around 5 too. She is mainly non-verbal and most of her behaviors occur in school. (Biting, tantrums) When she starts coming after me at home, I've learned that it is usually a school problem that she is trying to express. She has been on Risperdal since she was around 8 and I managed to keep the dose low for many years. Puberty is really hard on these kids (and all kids). I have tried some SSRI's over the years but they really don't work . The worst was Zoloft which increased her behaviors and tamtrums and it has terrible withdrawal symptoms. I have had better results with Fish Oils, GFCF, and Zyrtec for allergies, Perhaps she has seasonal allergies??? Does she seem to be worse in the Spring thru the Fall? I also give my daughter Valarian Root . It seems to calm her a great deal. Motrin starting 3-4 days before she should be getting her period. What can be worse than going to school with cramps and tender breasts and not being able to express it to anyone? I know that Valarian Root is used a great deal in other countries for anxiety, sleep issues and PMS. Good luck to you.

Guest guest
Nuha thanks for sharing of that but found one part very interesting on the resperidol for kids with autism that drug is of so dangerous. I too was on that. gained over much much weight in a short time. have always been of a size 6-8 and when on that went to a size 16 in 3 months, I to lost so much ability to speak, wet of the bed every single night not just a little but soaked the bed and floor when I to tried hard to get to the bathroom but couldnt hold that bladder muscle it was as if had no control once it began to flow even though tried of to do this much so. it was of great shame for me to be of a adult and married and now wetting of the bed. I to also began to lactate as if nursing and my body had of no monthly at all. even up to a year after going off the drug still no monthly for many many months. it also began after time to cause of tongue clicking sounds, tongue thrusting, and drooling much so too. they call that tardive dyskenisia which can be of a permanent sort of tic that may never go away, I to be of lucky mine went away but if under great distress find the tongue sort of clicking again but it isof different so not sure if actually related to this or not but never had of this tongue clicking before that drug. I to just felt so much dysfunctional while on that but no one cared enough to speak for me, no one regulated of the drug to get me off of it so I to just quit taking of it which is of a serious things to just stop you have to titrate off of it but I to lacked knowing that. so when I to stopped taking of it my skin itched so badly that I to had huge bruises all over of my body. I to be of had a severe gag reflex so it was of very hard to eat especially with a spoon or fork anythings coming even toards the mouth caused this severe gagging and it put me to a state of non sleep for days and so my whole being was of a much severe and complexing mess. But the weight slowly came back off but still larger than ever was in my whole life still from that. I to often wonder if some of the health issues I to have now is if still from that drug side effects, but have of no clue. I to also readed some where , that it can also create issues of diabetes. this new doctor I to be of seen mentioned of the wondering if I to have of diabetes because the neropathy he feels is of part of this mess of me now is similar to those with diabetes. Even today is of much much pains and feeling not right and woke in the middle night scratching thinking was of getting attacked by fleas. but when to the bathroom to look at the body found self plastered of hives things, so not allergic to ciprofloxacin another antibiotic. which puts me further at risk because have very few options for infections because allergic to so many of them/ sondra
Guest guest
Thank you for posting this first-hand account, Sondra. A mom on another one of my lists just posted this yesterday: " My 11 year old son just was taken off Risperdal after being on it for 1 1/2 years straight. He gained almost 100 pounds and couldn't tell when he was full. His brain and stomach didn 't communicate to each other that he had eaten. He would try and eat anything he could get his hands on. He also had self abusing behaviors like picking his skin and making sores all over his arms and legs. He still has scars from the sores he used to have. I have had people accuse me of burning him with cigarettes. I don't even smoke and I would never do that or let anyone do that to him. He went off the risperdal in July. On the risperdal, he became more aggressive, especially when he wanted to eat. I saw no long term benefits. At first he did great, but it the positives slowly wore off. " They did a story not too long ago on my local news about how it can cause breast development and lactation in boys, and many have had to have double mastetomies! Horrible drug... > but found one part very interesting on the resperidol for kids with > autism that drug is of so dangerous. Guest guest
(or anyone else who knows) what, if any, is the difference in Risperdal and Risperidone? I had already seen and heard some negitive things about the Risperdal and later in the school year last year when had some really bad behaviors and this uncontrollable rage that seemed to come at the drop of a feather, the dr. prescribed her Risperidone a fairly small dose from what they say... and I was quite nervous about it, however when I spoke to my sister about it she said quickly 'oh that stuff is a miracle worker for Kobs!' Apparantly my nephew has been on it since he was 4 (he's 9 now) and she said that it's the only thing that has worked to control his mood swings and huge temper that he has. Not that he doesn't still have a temper but it takes a lot more to get him upset to that point now. I knew he was on something, I just didn't know it was this... Hubby and I talked it over and decided we would give it a try and see how it went. It definately stopped her from melting so easily. She still has meltdowns and times when she will be very defiant or obstinate, but those episodes are fewer and father between than they were before the Risperidone. She's been taking it now for about 6 mo. now and I've not noticed any side effects that I've heard others talk about... She definately hasn't gained a bunch of weight as she still weighs 38lbs and has for the last 3 years. The most that changes is by a pound or so either way but never more that I've seen. I don't know that it's not effecting her toileting abilities as that was wiped out on Mother's day of 08 when she had the seizure that lasted more than 3 hours. She hasn't shown any interest in going on the potty though she knows that it's where we're supposed to do our pee and poop, and if you ask she will say that... but to actually tell us she needs to go or to get up and go when she needs to, just doesn't happen. I don't know if she would get that back if we stopped the Risperidone, or not... but if we do stop the Risperidone then we'd really have to look into something else because I can't go through what we were going through then. We couldn't take her anywhere unless there were two adults and one could sit next to her to keep her in her carseat and the other drive. If I tried to take her myself anywhere it nearly always ended with me in tears and going home because she just wouldn't stay in her carseat and when I'd try to get her back in she would hit, bite (drawing blood), pull hair and throw things (including my glasses) But maybe Risperidone is different than Risperdal?
