Guest guest
The National PASS Network announces its next Parents Saturday Workshop on accessing Social Security disability, Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid benefits on Saturday, March 13 in Austin, Texas at The Arc of Texas headquarters. The workshop ÒAccessing Social Security Disability Benefits to Provide Opportunities for Self-Support for People with DisabilitiesÓ is a must for families who need to plan and learn how to access these important federal support programs for their children of any age. The National PASS Network has been providing benefit access training and outreach to families with children with lifelong disabilities for more than 27 years. The Parent Saturday Workshop provides families with a comprehensive consumer background on how the federal disability benefit programs work and how to access them; what the eligibility requirements are for the disability programs are; how to calculate eligibility ; and how to make sure that you receive the full amount of your eligibility. Participants will learn how to use programs like the Plans for Achieving Self- Support (PASS) as your child begins transition employment in high school to preserve benefits and pay for services. The comprehensive workshop is also appropriate for parents as they do future planning to preserve SSI, Medicaid eligibility benefits as their child grows older. For a more detailed explanation of the workshop and what other parents say about the training go to online brochure at http://bit.ly/2m9frW With the national economy crashing down all around us, parents of children with lifelong disabilities desperately need cash resources and medical supports they can control and count on. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid are more important than ever to families and people with disabilities struggle with federal and state budget cutbacks and the real need for cash assistance and medical supports. These supports provide many positive opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities, but these opportunities are available only if parents know how to access the programs. If you donÕt know about them, the benefit programs canÕt help your child. The parents workshop is presented by longtime national disability benefit advocate Scarborough. His easy-to-understand, non-technical and graphic rich presentation style emphasizes a person-first, consumer empowerment approach to understanding and accessing the complicated Social Security disability benefit and long-term care programs for adults and children. Mr. Scarborough is known nationally for his decades of dedicated work with children with severe disabilities and adults with lifelong disabilities and their access to Social Security disability benefits and health supports from Medicare and Medicaid to live in their community with their family and friends.
