Guest guest
WOW! I thougt lack of collaboration was unique to the West...I agree that the best way to help any person with disabilities is the communication and collaboration. My experience is that the agencies are deeply engaged in their own agendas, it is difficult to interject what is actually happening. Theory v. actuality is still the norm. Just my 2 cents.... Let me know if you figure out the collaboration piece..... Collaboration I wanted to clarify something before this gets on a track I certainly didn't intend... My original post about the Easter Seals contact, etc --- is out of a hearfelt desire for collaboration. There are enough autism organizations in this Houston Metro area - that we should ALL be working together and collaborating. Especially those with funding to do good things. There should be full collaboration on that for the benefit of all. It is just odd that the groups I know of and see everywhere doing things - are those with little money. I'm just trying to bridge that gap but can't seem to.... We can help so many if we could collaborate and make the best use of all our resources and contacts. That was my point... Sincerely, M. Guppy My autism journey isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.... Texas Autism Advocacy: www.TexasAutismAdvo cacy.org " There are some aspects of a person's life that we have no right to compromise. We cannot negotiate the size of an institution. No one should live in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make their own choices and forge their own futures. All must. "
Guest guest
, We have the same issue in Pennsylvania. Plenty of organizations, but not enough collaboration. In the past few years one group tried to form a " Cross Disabilities Group " in order to bring us together. Unfortunately, they ran out of funding this year. It is definately something to continue to strive towards.
