Guest guest
Well, I'm glad to report that I got much more of a workout from this one than from the FIRM Basics on Monday! I went heavier with the dumbbells, and I can feel it in my arms today. I really liked this workout, as I could easily keep up with everything and got a good burn from using the heavier weights. I also learned something interesting regarding barbells! When Kassia mentioned using her curl bar the other day, I figured I would try using mine for this workout. Well, it went okay. But more importantly, while I liked the length of it (48 " ) for moving around the room and not running into anything, it was a bit too short to comfortably hold onto while on my shoulders – like my arms were too long to hold it properly or something. Glad I didn't buy that short bar I was talking about! That's more money for workouts now, right? I'll try the curl bar a few more times, but will likely stick to mostly dumbbells for video workouts, as they are faster/easier for me to switch anyway. It did add good resistance to the workout for me. I don't know how much it weighs, but it's certainly significantly heavier than the sculpting stick – and lighter than my giant 6' barbell. The workout starts out will a short warm up, and some stretching. Then it rotates between strength moves (a lot of combination moves) and easy cardio. The tall and short boxes are used pretty often in this one. Again there are hover squats in this workout, with the barbell this time. The cardio intervals are pretty simple in this one, with mostly basic stepping. I got a bit of a sweat started with these intervals, but was mostly just glad to keep my feet moving in time with the video. The step ups on the tall box were challenging, and I didn't do them as fast as they did. I need to control my upward movement on the tall box so I don't hit my head, lol. But I could still feel them working! There was one part were there were a bunch of step ups on the short box, while doing biceps curls. I chose heavier weights than I've used lately for this, and was really sweating at the end of this segment. I would have liked more/longer upper body work from this - but there were biceps curls, triceps kickbacks, upright rows, shoulder presses, and chest flyes. The ab work was pretty basic stuff, not bad. The workout ends with a stretch to the typical classic FIRM cool down music. Overall, I enjoyed this workout and will probably do it again when I do rotation of classic FIRMs. I'm going to try some FIRM parts workouts next week, so it'll be interesting to see if any segments from this workout make an appearance.
