Guest guest
Inflacin is a new topical cream available from Life Extension Foundation (http://www.lef.org) that aids in the relief of osterarthritis and other causes of chronic inflammation that I am passing along to the list FWIW. My husband decided to give it a try as an experiment after reading about it and reports that it definitely helps. It is not the total answer, nor is it advertised as such, although it might be for mild cases. According to the story in the October 2002 LEF Magazine, " A major factor in the inflammatory cascade is the excess production of arachidonic acid, which converts to prostaglandin E2 leukotriene B(4) and other pro-inflammatory agents. " Arachidonic acid can be reduced by the ingestion of cold water fish and the avoidance of foods high in saturated fat and sugar. According to LEF, many people use fish oil supplements for this reason. They go on to state " Phospholipase A2 is an enzyme that facilitates the production of arachidonic acid in the body. Scientists have patented a topical cream called Inflacin that interfers with the ability of phospalipase A2 to produce arachidonic acid. " The article is referenced if anyone would like them. LEF claims the product is low cost, which I don't agree with. A 2 oz jar (which lasts awhile depending on how many joints you rub it on each day) retails for $18 although LEF sells it for $12/jar to members purchasing in lots of 4. Jim has been using it two to three times a day for the past five or six days. It took about 4 days to notice any benefit, but he says it is especially good on his knees, where he has the most problems. The nice thing about it is that it's topical, has no appreciable odor and doesn't irritate the skin. It has a liposomal delivery system so it penetrates well.
