Karyn,

If you just lost your job, perhaps you can still buy COBRA health

insurance; I think you have 90 days after you lose your job to apply

for it. It might be worth it in your case if you'll be having tests.

Hi Etana,

Thanks for the advice regarding COBRA, I had 30 days to buy it, and it

was around $600 per month, so I had to refuse it. Of course, now I am

in debt way over the $600 for the ER visit, but I just can't afford

COBRA at that cost. I'm not sure who can? I'm still waiting for the MRI

official results, but the technician who took the scan told me

everything looked fine. At least I spent the weekend in a more relaxed

state!

My friend who took me to the ER says that she thinks the headaches were

a result of 'stress'. I looked up some information on headaches during

workouts. Have you, or anyone reading this, ever heard of

a 'weightlifter's headache'? I am not sure that is what I had, but I'm

trying to find some explanation. Right now, I am afraid to go back to

the gym! lol

Hi Karyn,

I'm coming in on this situation late, but I'm so relieved that your headache

doesn't appear to be from anything serious at this point. How terrifying!

I do want to let you know of a recent experience with our son, as it may be

helpful. He began, out of the blue, to have " thunderclap " migraines that

were devastating. He had no warning, just a few seconds of feeling " odd, "

and then he'd be bent over, literally screaming in pain, for a good 30

minutes before it would let up.

He'd NEVER had any sort of headache before, so that made it all the more

frightening. We had all the tests run, and nothing showed up-- and yet, he

was having these things two or three times a day. My husband suggested that

my son keep a food/headache diary-- and within two days, we had our culprit.

Cheese. Yes, cheese. Something he ate daily, often a couple of times a

day. We tested it by removing cheese from his diet. The headaches

instantly disappeared. Two weeks later, he ate a piece of cheese that was

literally about 1/8 " by 1/8 " -- and within ten minutes was folded up, wailing

like a banshee again. So, soy cheese rules at our house, and Pizza Hut

hasn't seen us since. ;-)

If (and I hope you never do) you have another headache like that, think back

over what you were doing and what you'd recently eaten. Who knew cheese

could do this? Even his doctors had never heard of such a thing-- but since

that last " test " fleck of cheese, he's never eaten another bit and he's

never had another of those horrific headaches. Or any headache at all, for

that matter.

I can understand where you are with the lack of health insurance, too. My

son has disabilities, so he's locked in to a pretty great health-coverage

system, but my husband and I are without any coverage and just praying that

good habits and God's watch care will get us through without needing medical

care. Something needs to change in this country, but I'm as confused as

everyone about what would work... other than exercise, clean living and

AWOE!

Hope this info may help, and I'm glad you're getting the all-clear!

Tess

Hi Tess,

Thanks for sharing your story. That must have been very frightening

for your family. You don't mention how old your son is, but I can

relate as I have a 13 year old who has had some strange medical

issues. It is scarier, I think, when it is your child who is having

the difficulty. I'm glad you were able to find the problem to stop

his suffering.

Keeping a food diary would certainly be a good idea, I am already

tracking what I eat for BFL, and the two days that I had the

headaches I wasn't eating anything new, however, I may have been low

on water, etc. I tend to have to remind myself to drink, however,

eating has never been a problem lol.

For now, I have thought of just doing my pilates, bellydancing,

callanetics and walking until I feel more confident about returning

to the gym for weights and elliptical. My physical therapist says I

can start strength training my rotator cuff next week (I've been

going to PT for about a month now for a partially torn cuff). I may

just wait until I get the go-ahead to go back for upper body before I

return to the gym altogether.

Thanks again for your advice, it is appreciated.

Hi Lethe,

I hope Karyn's health issues clear up. It doesn't sound like she has

found a food link at this point.

The info I have run into says that 90% of folks that have food

allergies/sensitivities react to some of these 8 items;

milk

eggs

peanuts

tree nuts

fish

shellfish

soy

wheat

Also, MSG gives some of my friends headaches.

Our regular doctors have VERY little nutritional education in their

medical school.

All the best,

M.
