Guest guest
All, As one of those who take exception at the labeling HFCS as poison, to me it is not the 'badness' of the sugar, it is the serious, over the top, highly abundant usage of it that we, as American consumers, are forced to receive. Over the last 3 decades, Americans have been pushed into higher and higher levels of sweetness. It has become to thepoint that eating something without sugar seems foreign to many. It is the gustatory education of America that is at fault, not the sugar itself. A child is taught from the get-go not to appreciate things unsweet as crying a bit will reward him with something that has 12 teaspoons of sugar in from the first mouthful! Moderation is a major key in our education that goes unused. Guest guest
Sunny, I too think that moderation is key, but that their is a difference between sucrose and HFCS physiologically. Healthy individuals eating in moderation could handle the HFCS on occasion, but those toxic overloaded from a lifetime of exposure would be a different story. There are many studies which link high fructose consumption to no alcoholic fatty liver disease and gout. I looked for the article but could not find the full text, however I did find this about the primary authors (from Nature, in a letter to the editor responding to an article about "toxic sugar") L. Sievenpiper, o J. de Souza o J. A. Competing financial interests J.L.S. has received several unrestricted travel grants to present research at meetings from The Coca-Cola Company and is a co-investigator on an unrestricted research grant from The Coca-Cola Company. J.L.S has also received travel funding and honoraria from the Archer s Midland, International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) North America and Abbott Laboratories; and research support, consultant fees and travel funding from Pulse Canada. R.J.D. was funded by a CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. He is also a co-investigator on an unrestricted grant from The Coca-Cola Company. D.J.A.J. was funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Research Chair Endowment. D.J.A.J. holds an unrestricted grant from The Coca-Cola Company and has served on the scientific advisory board for or received research support, consultant fees or honoraria from Barilla, Solae, Unilever, Hain Celestial, Loblaws Supermarkets, Inc., Sanitarium Company, Herbalife International, Pacific Health Laboratories, Inc., Metagenics/MetaProteomics, Bayer Consumer Care, Oldways Preservation Trust, The International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research & Education, The Peanut Institute, Procter and Gamble Technical Centre Limited, Hospital for the development of the NuVal System, Soy Advisory Board of Dean Foods, Alpro Soy Foundation, Nutritional Fundamentals for Health, Pacific Health Laboratories, Kellogg's, Quaker Oats, The Coca-Cola Sugar Advisory Board, Pepsi Company, Agrifoods and Agriculture Canada (AAFC), Canadian Agriculture Policy Institute (CAPI), The Almond Board of California, The California Strawberry Commission, Orafti, the Canola and Flax Councils of Canada, Pulse Canada, the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, and Abbott Laboratories.
