The following was sent to me by a friend:

All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are being recalled because

it has apparently been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke

(bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after

starting use of medication, according to a study performed at Yale

University. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended

that everyone (even children) seek alternative medicine.

Many over the counter meds contain this ingredient. You might wish

to check out the article at:

http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/infopage/ppa/default.htm

.... which describes the study and has other sources listed at the

bottom.

Does anyone have any comments on this? Is this really valid or is

it some knee-jerk reaction to the findings in one study?

This is very old news. This happened about two and a half years ago.

All drugs with PPA are now off the market. There is no valid reason

why anybody should take PPA.
