Guest guest
Matt, it's great you're better. What exactly have you done for the past six months? (Sorry if I missed a posting.) Maybe some of the steps you've taken could help other folks too. Daria
Guest guest
Hi Matt, Could you please share with the goup exactly what supplements you are taking and the dosage that you are taking that you think made a difference in your CMT. How long were you on these supplements before you started noticing a difference? Thanks. Betty

Guest guest
Matt, Please do share what you are using, I am sure we would all love to know. I take a lot of supplements but have not had THAT kind of result. I think they help but it sounds like you have really found something great. Guest guest
Matt's Routine I am very excited to share my supplement routine. I got everything set up to share with family members who have the disease thinking they would be excited themselves to do what I have done but, although excited for my success, they did not want to follow. So I am thrilled to share with you. It might get a little lengthy-I talk a lot. As a disclaimer, I am not a doctor – just someone who has done a lot of research and has found success in fighting disease in myself. The most notable thing I found out is that most supplements do not work. If your body cannot absorb them then they are useless (no matter how much you have spent on them). There are two companies I found that have superior products you can trust. They are Herbal Healer Academy and Pharmanex. However, in addition to taking supplements, you also need to do a good detoxification if you have any of the following three problems: DETOX There are three major things that really hurt us as members of the illustrious CMT club that require a detox. #1 Yeast infections (also known as candida) - you get this, unknowingly, if you have had to take heavy antibiotics. Yeast is really bad not only because of how sick it makes you but it keeps your intestines from absorbing the nutrients you need to heal. #2 MSG poisoning – you get this if you eat packaged foods containing MSG. A lot of Asian food contains MSG as well so be careful. The drug MSG is an excitotoxin that goes directly to brain and tricks you into thinking your food tastes better and makes you want more of it. It causes a host of neurological disorder symptoms as well as many other side effects. STAY AWAY from MSG! For more info go to www.msgmyth.com. #3 Aspertame poisoning. Yes, your diet soda is hurting you and making your neuropathy worse. STAY AWAY FROM DIET SODA! The artificial sweetner Aspertame is comprised of a dangerous excitotoxin and 2 neurotoxins. Extremely dangerous for everybody but especially us. It literally attacks the nervous system. One of the 92 side effects of this drug is death. The Desert Storm Syndrome was caused by Aspertame. It is not a safe drug by any stretch of the imagination. Go to www.dorway.com for more information. Our nerves are under enough stress, we do not need to add to it with the things we eat. The toxins from these three things do not leave our bodies on their own. But you can detox from them. You will want to use Herbal Healer Academy (HHA) products for your detox. A candida detox is pretty detailed so you will want to talk to them about it. They also have an MSG Detox formula that is $17 – dose is 10 drops under tongue 2x a day until bottle is gone. Their Aspertame Detox Formula is also $17 – dose is 10 drops under tongue or in a little water 2 to 3 times per day until bottle is gone (dose should be less for children). Call HHA for help with detoxification questions or to order at 1-870-269-4177. Before ordering you do need to become a member and to register you need to go to www.herbalhealer.com. SUPPLEMENTS The following is what I have been taking with amazing results: I started on a product from HHA called Ultra NeuroRecovery from American Biologics about 12 months ago along with liquid calcium and 3,000 mg of Ester-C. I immediately started feeling better. However, about 6 months ago a switched my regimen to the following: At Breakfast: * 2 capsules of NeuroRecovery (from HHA, $28 for a months worth) * 1 Packet of antioxidant Vitamin called LifePak Nano (from Pharmanex, $100 for a months worth) * 1 capsule of L-Carnitine (from HHA, 60 capsules are $29.95 – it is an amino acid that prevents fatty build up and enhances effectiveness of antioxidants Vitamin C and E.) * 2 oz. of G3 juice ($59 from Phamanex for a months worth – I only take it in the morning but wish I had the money to also take it in the evening. This is packed with highly absorbable vitamin C and many more antioxidants) At Lunch: * 1,000 mg of Ester-C At Dinner: * 1 capsule of NeuroRecover * 1 packet of LifePak Nano (I would like to add another 2 oz. of G3 juice from Pharmanex and HHA's coral calcium when my budget increases - calcium plays a vital role in the reproduction of DNA and for optimum health) At Bedtime: * 4 ounces of raw Apple Cider Vinegar mixed in 12 oz of water, honey may be added if desired (it is a rich source of amino acids and a gentle detoxification agent, curbs the appetite plus much more. I use Braggs brand and it can be purchased at any of your health food stores – make sure it is Raw and Unfiltered) TO ORDER For HHA products you need to become an HHA member and can register for free at www.herbalhealer.com and can order on that website (but it is a little hard to navigate) or can call them at 1-870-269-4177. For Pharmanex orders: In order to help my family members I became a distributor and you can order from me. Ideally, I think you should become a distributor yourself so you can better facilitate your own family as well – it is really easy to do. You can order online at www.bfscoachshepard.mypharmanex.com. You will need to register as either a new customer or a distributor (Selecting distributor just allows you more access to support and over your account – if you do it right you can make money as a distributor, but if your like me, I just did it to make it easier to help my family and friends and the distributor help line is unbelievably helpful. You can then order and if you order online you will need to select ADR (which means automatic delivery) in order to get a discount or you can call me directly and I can help you order over the phone through 3-way conference calling or to get set up as a distributor for your family and friends– I talked with my boss (who is awesome) and he said I can take the time I need to help my CMT friends so please call so we can talk. My work number is 1-800-628-9737 or you can email me at matthew.shepard@.... I have a cell phone that you can call me on after 4:30 Mountain Time if you would like and that is 801-440-4969 but please do not call after 8 PM (I need to do the bedtime ritual with my daughters) or on Sundays. To learn more about Pharmanex products go to www.mysuperscanner.com/bfscoachshepard. Please feel free to call or email me. Like you, I am sure, I love to help – do not feel like you are bothering me. My wife is used to me always helping people so she won't mind either. Even if you would like to just know more about the products I am taking, how they work and what is in them. Guest guest
Matt, Thanks for sharing. Thats great that you have had such a turn around in your symptoms. I looked into some of the stuff you are taking and it looks like there is a lot of vitamin B6 which is something CMTers are not supposed to take and I try to stay away from it. Maybe I am wrong, maybe it's just mega dosing of it that is bad but Vit B6 just scares me. Best of luck to you though, keep us posted. Great kids, I have 2 girls too and they are so much fun, they just talk too much sometimes lol. Pam
Guest guest
Gretchen, did Matt write what his routine was as far as what supplements/exercise etc. he was doing/taking? Somone wrote thanking him and talking about B-6 being harmful for CMT people but I can't find the original post from Matt that she got her information from. Could you by chance repost Matt's original post because it never came though to me. Thanks. Betty

Guest guest
Pam, Thank you for your input. I am a firm believer that everyone should study things out, ponder and pray before doing anything in life – to include your supplementation. This is what I did before adding any of these supplements and I feel Vitamin B6 is very important for me. No one should take anyone's advice about anything without doing these three things first – Study, ponder and pray. Visit the following for more information on B6: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vitamin-b6/NS_patient-b6 I took the following excerpt from the Mayo Clinic website: " Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is required for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine, and for myelin formation. " So, according to the Mayo Clinic, Vitamin B6 is required for myelin formation. I feel that as part of a B complex supplementation and in conjunction with other proper supplements, healthy eating and a good lifestyle, B6 is very important. Vitamin B6 on its own, I agree, is not a good idea; but as part of on overall plan, it is required. With that being said, the following excerpt also came from the Mayo Clinic: " Long-term treatment of two months or longer with 50-2000mg per day can cause peripheral sensory neuropathy that is usually reversible or neuropathy syndromes. Doses exceeding 1000mg per day or total doses of 1000 grams or more pose the most risk, although neuropathy can occur with lower daily or total doses as well. The syndrome is usually reversible with discontinuation of pyridoxine at the first appearance of neurologic symptoms. Residual symptoms have been reported in patients taking more than 2 grams per day for extended periods. Daily doses of 100mg or less are unlikely to cause problems. " So if anyone does take B6 and feels worse, then stop taking it. Fortunately for me, I feel much better. My supplementation does include Vitamin B6 in the following doses: * Ultra NeuroRecovery from American Biologics: 50mg * LifePak Nano from Pharmanex: 5mg * G3 juice from Pharmanex: none * Apple Cider Vinegar from Bragg: none * L-Carnitine from TwinLab: none Total B6 from supplements: 55mg I hope this perspective has been helpful. Study, Ponder and Pray. Matt

Guest guest
Pam, That is a hard question to answer. I started with mega doses (3000mg) of Vitamin C which gave me a lot more energy plus a regular multi-vitamin (Centrum). A few months afterward I added the NeuroRecovery plus L-Carnatine and after a few months of that I noticed my calfs were getting bigger. But I still didn't feel great. A freind of mine who was using LifePak with G3 for his son who has cistic fibrosis (sp?) recommended it to me (allthough his son still has the disease his test results for the symptoms now come back normal). I feel that was the missing link for my health. After starting on the LifePak and G3 my mind is clear, my water retention is gone, my enegry level is awesome. When I started the LifePak and G3 I dropped my Vitamin C down to 1000 mg. However, here is my order of merrit - the top one being the one I feel most important: 1- LifePak Nano 2- NeuroRecovery 3- G3 Juice 4- L-Carnatine 5- Vitamin C I have Information on NeuroRecovery (all the ingredients and an explination of why those ingredients were used) and info on LifePak and G3 Juice that I can email to you if (or anyone else) would like. Just email me and I will reply to you with all of the information. They are all in PDF format. Also feel free to call me if you would like 1-800-628-9737.
