hi we used pure soap bars with my daughter when she

got teenage spots also she has to stay away from dairy

tar soap this helps too.

Celia,

Vitamins A and E, zinc, selenium, and magnesium can all be helpful

for acne. I think for boys starting puberty zinc is especially

important. I think how it works is that the body prioritizes sperm

production (which requires a lot of zinc) over other things, and if

you don't have enough zinc then you can have acne as a result.

My own teenaged son sees a change in just a couple days when he

remembers to take the zinc.

I hope that might help,

Anita

Thank you Anita - yes this is what I need to focus on. He does get

40mg per day of zinc but I can increase that to 60. Or should this be

more I wonder? Also maybe increase his E. I have not been doing A and

Mg for a long while but will restart it. The A I have is 10,000 iu so

have kept it back since doing mega A followed by maintenance of

10,000 per day for a year or so.

He has not had any obvious immune issues at all since he has been

home, hence not restarting the A.

What level of selenium and E would you suggest?

I used to give 1400 mg per day of Mg for 3 years (he had major +++

muscle and ham string cramps - and that fixed it). I was told that

400mg was way too low a long while back, but notice from list that

this is high for most.

Thank you also - I use an organic pure soap so that is

something I have in place.

I

was reading lately that acne is a sign of a liver problem, can’t remember

where I read it. if it’s true, then liver

support supplements like milk thistle would help I suppose???? Sara

Would you be prepared to consider using Quinoderm (prescription

strength is stronger), which has good anti-bacterial and anti-fungal

properties? Basically it's hydrogen peroxide cream. When I was young,

slapping it on a raw squuezed spot would not only get rid of the spot

but the skin would heal up overnight - the peroxide stimulates the

skin to make new cells. Basically, magic.

Another very effective one is Retin-A cream on prescription(you pay a

fortune for weaker versions in antiwrinkle creams). With this one,

you cover the whole face, it goes red, the skin peels off. After I'd

used it no spots at all for a year. You could even use the leftovers

and give yourself a peel, no only kidding!

I'm sure there must be a down side to these creams, but they work and

it's a lot better than taking oral medication in terms of toxicity, I

think.

Some DANs are looking at Minocycline as a treatment for neuro inflammation after recent stufy on it. Some non responders are responding, only read of a few on it just FWIW

I was wondering if there are any supplements that will help as well as

I can avoid it for him.

Teenage spots problem

Has anybody had to deal with the horrible teenage spots/acne issue and

have you any advice on non-toxic effective remedies?

I have been using Tea Tree Cream daily for Adam, and occasionally

rubbing crushed garlic on worst spots. It fluctuates a bit in terms of

severity but I've not really got on top of the problem. Its all over

face and large area on back. Even some spots on top of arms! Which I

have never heard of before.

I was wondering if there are any supplements that will help as well as

topical applications. The doc will only prescribe antibiotics which

will mess his gut up - and it won't be a one-off it would be an ongoing

I can avoid it for him.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Well, I would up it to 60 and see if that makes a difference. My

presonal choice would be to up it and the others one by one, before

going really high on just one.

Also maybe increase his E. I have not been doing A and

I wouldn't go higher than 100 mcg/day for the selenium. For E, I

give my son the A.C Grace brand, which I think is 700 mgs of E, but I

also give my son a lot of CLO, so I feel we need that much. I like

their brand.

My son gets 500 mgs a day for the Mag. We've been at at least that

level for a long time. He weighs 41 pounds.

It seems to me that our needs vary depending on what we're going

through. If your son has started/is experiencing puberty, then it's

likely his needs would increase. For my son that was certainly the

case. Supping him has made a big difference for happiness (his

adrenals were stressed) and stuff like clearer skin.

Best of luck :-)

Hey, that would be really great: treat the spots and help the brain

at the same time! (If it worked.)

someone on this list was prescribed minocycline for her teenage son's

spots, turned out it worked for his 'autism'! this was early days in his

treatment and not sure if the person is still on the list but worth

asking:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/new-a-p/

it is Dr Pardo - J Hopkins Uni, of Neuroinflammation postmortem autism

findings who is behind this minocycline trial...

Minocycline is being studied by Hopkinson Univ who found latest

(post mortem) of brain inflammation. It's an antibiotic but it reduces

inflammation. Last time I posted this I said " no one knows why " and

Natasa chimed in and said why....

Yes it is an antibiotic so what would be the knock on effect on his

gut (and other issues). This is what I was worried about since

Minocycline would be prescribed as daily ongoing - not for short

period.

Is anybody looking at this do you know?
