Hi Everybody,

I get the magazine " Remedy " and in it I found a very interesting article on

microsurgery to transplant nerves to replace damaged ones. This is for

peripheral nerves. Dr. Elkwood, M.D., chief of plastic and

reconstructive microsurgery of Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ is doing

this procedure. Sounds as though it could be promising, particularly for those

newly diagnosed with damaged nerves. It does state that there are things that

can be done for people who have had nerve damage for 20 years.

Perhaps we should try to contact him about this procedure with CMT patients

because our condition is slowly progressive.

P.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I was wondering what

symptoms you have seen go away since doing chelation?

Well, she still is significantly lower cognitively than when she lost her

skills, but she has improved, can talk some, make eye contact, take care of her

general needs. But BEFORE her vaccine injury she could read, play, etc at an

above average level. She also still has the hallucinations/delusions that came

with the injury but they are much more manageable. The clozaril made a big

difference in her level of aggression, keeping her out of the institution and

safely home with us. She is happier, on a more even keel.

My feel is that the mercury damaged her nuerons, and now that we have removed a

portion (hopefully most) of it, it's time to start healing those damaged

neurons.

She takes a prescription vitamin (8 a day, actually); EFAs, borage, sometimes

yeast cleanse, sometimes rutin (for the bruising).

Any input you have would be appreciated!

Thanks - Patty

Sorry it took so long to reply. I haven't been visiting the group as much

during the last year.

All of her symptoms are better but none are totally gone. She can talk, mood

swings less severe, better eye contact and sociablity, better understanding of

language, better ability to learn. Less intense hallucinations. Less

aggression (more from clozaril than chelation). On far fewer meds, so therefore

more present in the moment (instead of zombie-like). All good progress...but

the girl I had 7 years ago shall not return, I'm afraid. Too much damage. The

good news is, I really love the girl I have now, even if she's not who she was

before! She is a tremedous challenge and a tremendous joy. We are all doing

much better and managing life well.

Patty - I have posted this before but we have our daughter participating in Help

with Learning.  http://www.help-with-learning.com/  They are part of a bigger

organization called ICAN.  They have neurodevelopmentalists throughout the

US. See links from this page. I believe Maureen Block - Ryder Foundation also

used them for her son.  The neurodevelopmentalist evaluates your child and

prescribes a program of 1-2 min exercises you do at home. Sound Therapy may be

involved.  They believe the brain is plastic and can make pathways to improve

function where there was either weakness or none before.

We have been doing this program for almost a year now.  We have seen

improvement with our daughter (who was ADHD and now ADD - we are getting

there).  You must be organized to do this program....because you are doing it

yourself instead of taking them to a clinic thus the expense if far less than

taking them to a private clinic.  I have seen also clinics for Tomatis sound

therapy coming to my town from the Listening Center. It's another tool to help

with learning problems.
