Guest guest
Joanne- A good way to check ear asymmetry is to wet down the hair and hold pencils behind the ears and look from the top. This gives you a great visual. Then hold then below the ears and look at Nick's face. This will show you if one is lower than the other. I found this to be very helpful. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. I really needed to hear that. We have seen some correction of Nick's ears, but they remain off. How do you know how out of align they are? Before we got the band, if you looked face to face at Nick you couldn't see his left ear! Guest guest
Joanne, I know that with a DOCband and a STARband which are active bands, apply gentle pressure to all prominent areas of the head. Nick's band should constantly be shifting. DocBand and Starband babies get adjustments either once a week or once every 2 weeks, depending on the childs age. What is the name of the place you go to? Maybe some one here has used them and can tell you what type of band they use and if they were happy w/the results their child received. > > > Thanks for replying . Guest guest
, I don't know if it's a passive band. It is designed to put slight pressure on his right forehead(it protrudes). However, it is constantly shifting and we have to reposition it! Nick gets adjustments every 2-3 weeks. Does that sound right? Guest guest
Joanne, Maybe you should send a post with Valley Orthocare as the subject line. Ask if anyone has used them and what their experience was. Like I said before, you really don't have anything to lose by taking him for a second opinion at CT. > > > > > > > Hi All! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I don't post much, but read every message I receive. Guest guest
Dawn Welcome Kansanite!!!!! Good for you for investigating all you can. Your son is very lucky to have such a concerned mom. Yes, my son is Lucas. There are two dates because he has been banded twice. He had no improvement in the first band and since we have a very experienced othrotist we did not think that was the reason. It could very well be that the first band was "defective" in some way. After 4 months of basically no change he was banded again. We never stopped wearing it, there was just no improvement. I hope this all makes sense. I apologize if not, we have been laying carpet ALL day and I am exhausted. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I know all there are others on the list would be glad to help too. You will be amazed at the support you will find here, it is AWESOME. Once again, To Hi ,Technically, I live in Olathe. However, I live off K-10 in Cedar Creek and it was annexed into Olathe so you might not be thinking that is the Olathe area. My husband and I own and operate a horse barn in Lenexa which is about a 1 1/2 miles from our house. Is it your son, Lucas, who is banded? Since I am new to this and not familiar with all of the terminology, why do you have two dates listed four months apart? Did Lucas wear the band, graduate, and then have to go back to wearing it? Guest guest
I just hope we don't have to go back to the hospital any time soon. I really wonder if she didn't have it last week but it just didn't come back as positive. She is active and playful as ever. She has always been a good sleeper and even when she was sick was sleeping through the night so that's an extra bonus. Taryn and Indiana Re: to Taryn Taryn-How scary!!! Guest guest
, I guess as I started researching things more, I felt that the DOC band might be the better way to go since it is FDA approved and it’s such a widely used device (i.e. more research, more outcomes, more standardization, etc.). Additionally, the DOC bands seem to be a little more efficient in the correction. It turned out that our out-of-pocket expense with our insurance was the exact same so we’re having him casted again today for the DOC. I spoke with the orthotist already (he’s a member of this group) and he was a huge help. I can only hope that I’m doing the right thing here. I know that there’s also been lots of successful experiences with locally made helmets but as many in the group have indicated, in those cases, it all depends upon the experience of your orthotist. I also like the fact that the DOC is open at the top. The locally made helmet would have been a full head helmet. My little one is a warm little guy to begin with so I liked the idea of having ventilation for his little headJ Thank you for remembering and asking!!! BTW, I looked at Dane’s pics this morning…what a cutie!!! -----Original Message----- From: rmanias <rmanias@...> [mailto:rmanias@...] Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 7:29 AM Plagiocephaly Subject: Re: Makenna was casted!! to --- In Plagiocephaly , " Lanham " <susan@l...> wrote: > Long story short, we are now switching to the DOC band and he will be > measured tomorrow and should get it sometime next week. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for the support. Hows the little one doing??, I would love to hear. Well, today was horrible when they called me up and told me I was denied again, I had a lot of mixed emotions, I think it's just not fair. I will keep on trying and I will go through all the appeals till no more, but I won't speak or present any cases I will just tell them, to just put me present in the books, like you said they migh have their minds made up already anyway. The reason I will do this, it's because the insurance department want you to go through all the appeals before you can file a complaint with them. I'll keep on trying. I think I'll do it, not so much for the money, but for all the babies in need of this treatment. Maybe someday they realize it. Guest guest
, Thanks for asking about JD. He’s been in the helmet for 8 days now and he’s tolerating it really well. My dh and I swear that we’ve already seen a change in his head…there is a bulge at the flat spot! We’re so geeked about it! We have so much faith that this is going to work that I don’t mind him wearing it at all. The only thing I miss is kissing his precious head but I keep kissing him all over anywayJ I commend you to keep trying to appeal and keep pressing them…even if just for the principle, like you said. ’s band is vacationing in FL right now, right? Have you heard anything yet? I guess it won’t be back until next week. Keep me posted. Guest guest
Hard to say . Aidan is older and so he has been rolling for a long time. I really don't think that the band is heavy enough to hinder him though, probably just going to take some time to get used to it. I hope that you already see improvement. I haven't yet but my husband says he can see change. Only 2 weeks today. His headsicle will be there for our next appt so I hope I can see a difference. Natasha sricks1@... wrote: HI Natasha.Jake is doing well, thanks for asking. He still doesn't seem to even know it's on. We go to CT tomorrow for our 1 week checkup. I hesitate to say this, but I really think I see some improvement already. I give Jake a bath in the morning so DH doesn't get to see him without his band on until the weekends when he is off. I can't wait for him to see Jake without it on Saturday to see if he notices any change. Anway, the only problem I'm having with Jake so far is that he just started to roll onto his stomach in his sleep. Well, once he gets on his stomach, he can't figure out how to get on his back again. He rolls over all the time during the day, but I'm afraid that he can't see with the helmet on in the crib. Or does the helmet have anything to do with it at all? I just feel sorry for him when I go into his room and he's on his stomach, crying, trying to flip back over. I just hope it's not because of the helmet. Anyway, he did this about 5 times last night..ugh! Any suggestions?

Guest guest
> > She is 8 months old, and she is trying to pull the velcro off - Some babies like to pull the velcro because of the noise. Is she doing that or actively trying to remove the band? Hopefully the barette will do the trick Dane's mom DOC Grad
Guest guest
, I hear ya! Had I not seen actual pics of repo success stories, I would never have believed it could happen! But, there have been some successes out there, and I think the key with repo is to realize the sooner you start, the better the outcome, to know when to say its not working for you (weekly pictures are great!), while still in a good window of opportunity for treatment with a cranial molding device. I felt so rushed to just make the decision to band for that reason, we had the dx of tort at 2 mnths, and even tho we were never told to repo, we knew to do it and by 4 mnths, it only got worse, and even then, my Doc didn't want to band- I had to insist! I had to make that decision based on how unsuccessful we were in the past two months, and had the great opportunity of listening to parents that were farther along that seemed to keep saying, I wish I hadn't listened to my doctor and trusted my own instincts. It really helped me make that decision at a good time. In hindsight, I would say that a couple of factors worked against us- he was in daycare, obvious that we were not in total control of his repo-they tried. Also, as much as you'd like to hold your baby 24/7, there is no feasible way that life stops and some fairy will let you sit there holding your child while you have to do all those things that keep your house clean and livable among other things in life! Even the 1/2 hour in a swing, or 1/2 hour in the car, all worked against us by the time his head had taken its shape- gravity pulls that head to the flat spot quicker than you can turn around. I give hats off to anyone that can be successful at repo because I know (as most everyone here does!) how hard it is to win that battle! But the key again is to know when to hold up the white flag and surrender and say "help my baby!"
Guest guest
ATA just started an incredible sale. I can go from Chicago to Seattle for $90!!! Just type ATA in your browser. If ATA doesn't go where you want, try Southwest Airlines. And while they are advertising low fares, I'm just not ready for Hooters Airlines!!! I thought it was a joke at first! Dix Re: [ ] To From Sheri Hi Sheri. Thanks for emailing me. Anyways I didn't find ANY cheap tickets all of them are so expensive aghhhhhhhhhh it makes me so pissed off. I tried priceline but they are asking way to much, I feel like pulling my hair out right now. Sheri <sheri02cats@...> wrote:Hey girl! How are you doing? Any luck with plane tickets? Guest guest
, I'm a very passionate gardener. Years ago, it was veggies and some flowers. Now I buy the veggies at the farm stand, and grow roses and flowers. Last year I decided that I could no longer go on with the size of the gardens I had, and would have them rototilled under (after digging up what I wanted to keep) and just have a couple smaller islands and a small border. I've spent so much time with this new downsized plan that I had to get some help with it - and it's not done yet! What type of gardening are you into? Dix Re: [ ] To From Sheri I'm 45 with a computer science background, the mother of three children who are 20, 17, and 12, and I've been divorced for three years. In addition to the time I spend here online and offline researching, I am a news junkie, enjoy gardening, and have a couple of other volunteer projects on the side related to adult literacy and medicine. Guest guest
Funny, but true! They have ads on TV, and the stewardesses are all Hooter girls and wear shorts and low cut t-shirts. My husband goes into hysterics every time they show the ad! Re: [ ] To From Sheri Hi Sheri. Thanks for emailing me. Guest guest
Hi, Dix! I don't really have a specialty, I just love being out there. One of my goals is to continue to reduce the amount of grass and replace it with perennials. I do a lot of experimentation with different plants. The rabbits and other critters dictate what I can grow and it's nearly a full time job catching and relocating them. They are so destructive. Call me Mrs. McGregor. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing too much gardening this season yet, but I'm hoping that will change very soon. I miss it, and my largest bed looks like a jungle at the moment. I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] To > , > I'm a very passionate gardener.
