Guest guest Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Hi Yvette, I feel the same as you however, I have no problem with my thyroid. it just that life gets in the way of my motivation to exercise. I too started BFL a long time ago and lost 20lbs but experienced more of a body composition change than weight loss. I lost of 10% of fat and now I am curently at my heaviest. I feel like a new girl on the block as well and need to get back on the wagon right away. I am proud of myself that I have maintained my weight in that I have not gone over 250lds, may be by one or two pounds but I always hover around 250. I am currently doing my master and made the decision to double up my course load. This has affected my dietand my work out schedule. I have decided to officially start the program on November 20 and hope to pick up many tips by that date. I wish you all the best in you renewed effort. Guest guest Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Welcome, Yvette. You have found a great support system with this Yahoo! group. Be sure to dive into the Files and Database. They are full of wonderful resources. I'm sure you will reach your goals. I also wanted to let people know how happy I am using the site option, " no mail " . I have joined many of the active support lists for BFL and learn SO MUCH from each one. It is great not to fill my inbox...I just go to Yahoo!Groups and check in as often as I like all throught the day or week. Anyway, it works for me and I wanted to share it incase some didn't know. I hadn't heard of your type of hypothyroidism, but it sounds so frustrating. I am curious what your body temp. is first thing in the morning and in the afternoon. Would you say the farther away from 98.6 you are...the worse your hypo. is? I am trying to track this for myself and am having a hard time getting my temp. to come up into the 98.6 range. I love BFL and all the positive, goal oriented folks that post. Be strong, M. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Hi and thanks for the welcome! I have been scouring the files and database. There is a lot of great information there! Yes, I was told that it is a rare type of hypothyroidism, but at least I can stay off the medicine and I actually feel a lot better for it. I've tried a bit of homeopathy, but not enough to say yea or nay. My body temperature is a nightmare! I tracked it for a few months for 's syndrome and other thyroid issues and found that I stay right around 95 degrees. For a while I was always 93.7 in the morning. I haven't taken it for a few months, but should really check it again. It didn't really seem to make a difference whether is was really low or not as to how I felt. In fact, those 2 weeks that I was 93.7 I felt the best! I think my body is just crazy. What are you doing to bring up your body temp? I'm curious, I didn't find anything that worked well, but someone told me cayenne pills actually help. Thanks again, Yvette > > Welcome, Yvette. > You have found a great support system with this Yahoo! group. > Be sure to dive into the Files and Database. Guest guest Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Hey Alecia, Sounds like we are both in the same boat. Have you checked out the files & databases? There is a lot of great info in there. I truly believe that exericse is the key. The weight may be slow going, but muscles can make the body look better faster. I love my exercise videos, I can always find one to fit my mood, even when I don't feel like working out. I have also found that if I make an exercise plan it takes the guesswork out of what I will be doing for a workout. That way I can just start working out and not put a lot of thought into it beforehand...if I do, I'll talk myself out of it! Good luck and I hope you do great! Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Hey Yvette, I missed your post on your type of hypothyroidism, but I have had my own saga with my thyroid--it's always been slow, and my temp. has always been 97.3 or lower. However, my tests were always " normal " or borderline. My doc is progressive and because of my symptoms (achiness, exhaustion, menstrual cramps, etc. ) she tried me on a little Armour Thyroid. I had researched it and wanted to try that, since the synthroid made me feel weird. I'm now on 1 gram or some such thing and it is a miraculous difference. I ran out of pills this weekend and I felt HORRIBLE on Monday and Tuesday, and I was reminded how bad I used to feel all of the time. Have you tried the Armour? Or are you just avoiding drugs? One of the things that helped me think about it was something I read describing early human's diet--we used to eat offal, innards, and would naturally get thyroid supplementation from eating it. Armour is a natural product (Armour pig processing) so I don't feel like I'm doing something unnatural to my body. And I don't know if I'd be doing this program, honestly, I would have been too sore without the meds. Anyway, FWIW. Welcome--I'm in week 8 (yay!) of my first challenge, and while I've only lost 11 pounds, as of this AM I have lost EIGHT INCHES OFF MY WAIST. Sorry, I just had to shout it! It's the only thing that has worked for me, and it's so fast. I love it. Best Regards, beth Re: New girl on the block! Hi and thanks for the welcome! I have been scouring the files and database. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Thank you for sharing the info. on your temp. and thyroid, beth. Do you expect to be on the Armour for life, or do people eventually get off it? I am so glad you are feeling better. I know I need to make an appointment for a thorough checkup. Congratulations on kissing another 8 inches good-bye. Great!! M. > > Oh, yeah, and my temp is now 98.6 for the first time in my life. > > Best Regards, > beth > Quote
Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Thanks Yvette, I had actually planned on starting the challenge again in 4 weeks but I think I might start a little earlier. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I don't think you ever get off of it. Honestly, I do not take other meds or even tylenol unless it's an emergency--but I don't think of the Armour as being a drug, more like a supplement. It's not some foreign chemical. As of yesterday, I also have lost 5 inches off my bust. Sigh. STill no weight lost for 5 weeks. Whatever. I am a grand science experiment, that's what I keep telling myself. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 You probably are gaining an equal amount of muscle Believe your tape measurer and fit of your clothes. You must be doing EVERYTHING right. Enjoy your successes. M. > > I don't think you ever get off of it. Guest guest Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Thanks, , I know you're right, I just have to be reminded regularly. : ) Best Regards, beth Re: New girl on the block! Guest guest Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I was actually on Armour for years and really liked it better than Synthroid. I did get off it, but then mine is a little different. I've been off all thyroid medicine for 1 year and 8 months! Most of my symptoms have gone away, but the weight will not budge. I've changed all my goals from being weight loss centered to mind, fitness, health and spiritual goals. It's so nice to have goals that are attainable! Good luck everyone! > > > > Oh, yeah, and my temp is now 98.6 for the first time in my life. > > > > Best Regards, > > beth > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I just have to ask...What's your body temperature about 11AM ? Has that returned to normal too? I am still working on mine. I did set up a doctor's appt. I think I will ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. I am lucky I don't have any of the aching symptoms. Yes, our goals are attainable. M. > > I was actually on Armour for years and really liked it better than > Synthroid. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 You know, I'm not sure what it is around 11am. When I was checking my temp all the time I did it at 9 :30am and at 5pm. I did finally go to an endo, he was really good and was the one to get me off the medicine. I really didn't want to at first because I had friends that had really bad experiences with them. One guy didn't really know much about hypothyroidism and kept telling her that she was fine and that she was being a hypochondriac, by the time she went to her regular doctor her thyroid was twice the size it normally was and her numbers were super high. You just have to really pay attention to what's going on and not be afraid because it's a doctor. Have you checked out Shoman's website? It's the best for thyroid information. If you go to About.com and type in hypothyroid it will pull it right up. There is pretty much all the info that you need one that site. Guest guest Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Thanks, Yvette. I will check out the M. Shoman site too. I had read that the temp./metabolism is usually lowest in the early morning, then picks up steam before slowing back down in the evening. That's why I asked about the mid-day temp. I was wondering if yours had come up to 98.6. Thanks again. When I have the Dr. appt. I'll be ready to ask the right questions, and request lab work to answer them.
