Guest guest
Christie - The pounds will come off later in the challenge. You will notice the shape of your body changing. I am just finishing up week 3 and I can already start to see a change - the scale has moved about six or seven pounds. The strength I am gaining is awesome and the shape of my body is changing. What I know is that you really won't start to see a weight change until weeks 6 - 8. Stay with it - read and re-read the book to help with your focus. In 2000 I lost 110 pounds doing BFL and didn't stay with it. I gained back about 30 pounds and I realize that this program is called BODY FOR LIFE for a reason. It works! Good luck, ~B " christie.walker " wrote: Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself as well. I've been a " lurker " on the board for the past couple weeks and have really enjoyed the conversations and learned so much! Figured it was time to jump in! I'm on week 2 of the challenge and so far so good. I'm doing well with the exercise, but the eating is so-so. I'm not cheating, just having a hard time fitting in all my meals. I'm also wondering exactly how many calories I should be getting (I'm 5'4 " and 153 pds.) or if I should even worry about that. I've been trying to drop 20 pds. for the past year or so and have been doing weight watchers since that worked in the past (2002, before the birth of my second DD). I'm in a serious plateau and am hoping that BFL is the jump start I need. No weight loss yet, but I'm (along with my DH) trying to convince myself that the pds. don't matter right now. And trying my BEST to stay off the ^ & *$%* & scale!! Easier said than done. Anyway, any advice, etc. is welcome! Looking forward to getting to know you all! Guest guest
Hi, welcome! I think the consensus on the BFL for Women book is that you should use it as a doorstop. It's a watered down and nearly useless version of the original. Instead of being inspiring and telling you how to get serious results, her whole underlying message is to blame your age, gender, and hormones and not expect too much. The nutrition and workouts are vague and ineffective. She's basically telling women what they want to hear (what sells) instead of what actually works. Definitely follow the original book by Bill if you're entering the challenge. It's produced millions of jaw-dropping transformations. You might also want to check out Eating for Life if you don't have it already. http://eatingforlife.com/recipes/ > > Hello everyone. I've been browsing the board and wanted to introduce > myself. Guest guest
If you need more help try going to www.bodyforlife.com there is so much helpful information there. If you click on food and recipies on the top banner you will find tons of recipies to get you off to a good start. However not all recipies there are body for life approved the ones that are have the body for life approved stamp at the bottom of them. You can also find sample meal plans. The one thing that helped me the most was down loading the blank daily food progress report. you can find that by clicking on challange then progress reports. What I did was print out a copy take it to my office supply store and make 84 copys. I used a hole puch and put them in a 3 ring binder. Then I labeled them with the day and week for each day of the challange. That helped me to keep a track of what I eat each day along with planning meals in advance. I never threw any of them away I just folded them over and keep the book once the challange was done. I also used them to write my weight and measurements on each week and I recorded my workouts on the bottom like 20 minutes hit or lower body work ect. That book has been very helpful to me also in later challanges. Two other very helpful resources are fit day this site is free and lets you keep track of all the major factors like calories fat protein ect. You have to enter new foods which can be a pain at first but you only have to enter them once and then the site remebers them. The 2nd link is for biofitness it allows you to check your body fat levels its not as good as calapiers but its decent easy and free.I was a little worried when I entered my first challange also I had gained almost 50 pounds because on an illness and I needed to get it off. Not only had I gained a lot of weight I had also lost most of my muscle mass because the severe anemia did not allow me to much. I can tell you from personal experience this is a great program but you need to see it as the start of a new life style and not a diet. I was never once hungry on this program.I got great results and I felt so much better about myself as the challange progressed. It kind of takes on a life of its own. After the first few weeks you start to notice that you are looking better and feeling better. That serves as a postive reinforcement of its own. You find you want to keep pushing yourself to see just how good you can look at the end of the 12 weeks. Don't rely on the scale to much its not a very good indicator of how your really doing. What I did was buy a dress one size smaller then I wore when I started the challange I hung it up on the outside of my bedroom closet. So I had to look at it each time I walked into my room, I tried it on every 2 weeks. Boy did it feel great when by week 6 I could fit into it. Body for life is a great program that you can stay on the rest of your life. http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html http://www.biofitness.com/abodyfat.html -- In bodyforlifewomensclub2 , Skwigg wrote: > > Hi, welcome! Guest guest
Welcome, is. Glad you came along to this group. I look forward to hearing your contributions and hope you find the answers that you need here. Best wishes, Darla Hello Im a 27yr old aspie. i got into biomed when i felt i had nowhere else to turn. i was stuffing myself with junk all day and was becoming overweight. I was told about gf/cf when i was 17. As this was only a year post diagnosis (which i had little support for) i found i couldnt face the idea of giving up milk and gluten. i hadnt heard of rice milk or other types of milk and i was hopeless at cooking. i went to university to study diet and health (bath spa uk). i struggled through my 1st year with cognitive and sleep issues. i decided one day (in year 2) that enough was enough. i was going to go gf/cf even if i was going to feel really bad for a while. i started the diet and found i was craving my meds. i wasnt suicidal but i looked at the packet and saw the ingredient (lactose) on it. i switched to a liquid form. this unbeknownst to me had benzoates and tartaric acid in it which would later cause me to give it up. The withdrawls were really bad. i stocked up on safe food and never once gave into my cravings. i did increase the ripserdal for a bit to counteract any side effects. then a few months later i thought i'd had an infarction. i hadnt in fact my body was magnesium deficient. So i bought some magnesium and fish oils (i need a soy free and sulphite free brand please). Later i added calcium and milk thistle and within 3 days of trying 5htp i was sleeping soundly again. My local tescos started doing gf/cf free from range foods. i knew i could trust the ingredients. The reason why i trust tescos free from range is because a mother of an autistic child designed those foods for that purpose. i do eat other brands but prefer tescos. I have graduated with a DipHE. This is in spite of my difficulties! i fully support biomed. Some of the reasons why i joined this list are 1) the other biomed group couldnt help me source items as easily as im in the uk 2) i wish to try LDN but dont know how to start 3) i wish to find a DAN! doctor near Bristol UK 4) i wish to share my story about how biomed helped me and support people who are starting gf/cf 5) i wish to find out more about phenolic diet, i have cut down to low and very low phenolic foods and my supply of No-phenol arrived today but im not sure what else to do. 6) i hope to find help with sleep (ie waking up as i dont hear my very loud alarms), anxiety and depression issues. is
Guest guest
Hello is Thanks for your introduction and welcome to the group I think you are a really brave and incredibly resourceful person to have worked all that biomed stuff out for yourself, as well as weaning yourself of milk and gluten and anti-psychotic medication. There are lots and lots of people on here who are very experienced with and knowledgeable about biomed (I dont count myself as one of them! I take the easy way out and rely on my practitioner) and I'm sure you will get some great support. In terms of telling your story, there are some other Aspie folk on the forum that you can access from this web site: http://www.colour-se7en.co.uk and I think people there would be glad to hear what you have to say. Good luck Zoe > > Hello > > Im a 27yr old aspie. i got into biomed when i felt i had nowhere else to > turn. i was stuffing myself with junk all day and was becoming overweight. > > I was told about gf/cf when i was 17. Guest guest
Hi sis thanks for your introduction, did you want a recommendation for soy free and sulphite free magnesium and fish oils ? you could look at solgar magnesium citrate tablets or buffered magnesium glycinate, there are more tho, also look at MorDHA fish oil (type into google) my son is strict gf/cf and does well on the fish oil & kirkmans magnesium & I have just started to take the solgar. Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad you joined us. It's a holiday weekend so there are tumbleweeds blowing through this place at the moment. I'm sure it will pick up again soon. I have to ask, after all the people who join and say " I'm __ old and I'm having more trouble than ever staying in shape. " Am I the only one who feels like it gets easier every year??? I was a clueless flabby mess in my 20s and early 30s. I had nowhere near the kind of muscle or conditioning I have now. At 40 I feel like it's just getting good. I can't wait to see what kind of shape I'm in at 60. Twenty more years of strength training? Holy cow! I'll be a machine. How's everybody doing with the weekend barbecues and family get-togethers? > > Hi all! > > I just signed up and am looking for something to keep me motivated and > accountable. Guest guest
is Soya is g.m and brewed in aluminium casks, it has very similar proteins as gluten & dairy. My son returned to being very autistic when we accidentally gave him some pasta with it. This was last NOv, it took 6 weeks for it to totally leave his body. We have good video footage of him at his xmas play - not with us at all & at his Easter play he is standing at the mic singing & joining in the actions etc. Mark is going to be doing some you tube stuff with it. Trufree use soya in their cakes & biscuits to. dont know about non cod oil Lara x > > > > > > Hi is, > > > > > > It is good to have you on the list. > > > > > > Jane > > > > > > Mum to aged 12 > > > > > > > > > introduction > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello > > > > > > Im a 27yr old aspie. i got into biomed when i felt i had nowhere > > else to turn. i was stuffing myself with junk all day and was becoming > > overweight. > > > > > > I was told about gf/cf when i was 17. Guest guest
No barbeque's or family get-togethers for me... it's simply a long weekend around here - other than my son being the the local parade later with his Cub Scout troop. Guest guest
Hi (and everyone) I agree - I started getting in the best shape I've ever been in during my late 40's. And although I HATED turning 50 (traumatized is a word that comes to mind) - it can be a great time of life. Now that the college degree is earned, the kids are almost independent and I'm settled in a career, there's time for ME! That includes becoming a group fitness instructor and studying for the ACE exam - so I guess the learning doesn't end. Hope you all had a great holiday. I spent it digging weeds and planting! Guest guest
Hey, I just wanted to add to the discussion--I'm 44, and yesterday my husband was talking to a guy at his gym--he was complaining that now, at 30, he just doesn't have the fitness he used to as a teenager. My husband was agreeing that it only goes downhill. I said I didn't have any idea what he was talking about as I am more fit than I was in my 20's, and far more healthy (I had chronic hepatitis until age 42) and that I have much more stamina than I ever had as an adult. I feel like my life is just beginning in a way! My bodyfat just hit 28% on the mOron. I am SO glad I started Body for Life. It's saved mine. : ) Best Regards, beth Re: Introduction Hi (and everyone) I agree - I started getting in the best shape I've ever been in during my late 40's. It sounds like a fabulous place to be living....Just remember, other than the birds and the squirrels, don't feed the critters, especially the bigger ones... What you *want* to get, that will get you off to a great start in Natural Perfumery, is a book called " Essence and Alchemy " by Mandy Aftel....It's under $20 at Amazon, and other places... Mandy's book gives a nice summary of the history of Natural Perfumery, plus lays out the basics of perfume blending...and does a good job of describing the essences from a perfumery point of view...It lays out a decent framework, with which you can start.... In terms of perfumery, it was the *best* $17 I have ever spent...(Amazon)... You have also come to, what I believe, is the best Natural Perfumery mail list on the Internet...Though sometimes the topics will seem way beyond where you are at, hang in there....It will start making sense if you keep at it... The book will explain a lot of questions you might have as a newcomer... This list has extensive archives you can use as resource for other questions...Plus, of course, current postings.... Welcome to a life long life interest....! It can be a hobby, a way of life, even a way to make a living... Care.... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. (GIA) http://www.facebook.com/Le.Hermite PS. Remember...don't be feeding the bigger critters....<G>....! And no, I'm not aware of an essence that will keep the bears out of your house....<G>....! In my case, I already had a reference library from my time when AT focused...AT oriented, true... I also had a fair number of EOs and some absolutes already, and was somewhat familiar with a number of them... That's when I started blending...Field trials, I guess you could call it.... I'm still there....Added a number of new essences.... I really haven't mastered what's in " Essence and Alchemy " yet....And I haven't changed direction yet....say to oil base or solids, or incense.... I guess I'm at the stage where I'm " doing " for hands on experience.... Care.... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
Yes, yes, and yes, -- I have just gotten a few lovely things to start trying what I've been reading about and imagining (also awaiting glassware, scale...). I'll be working my way back through the book as a place to start. Very exciting. But I do so love to read. And if, along the way, a $20-something book (or better yet, library loan) might save me a few hundred in foolishness, I would be ever so grateful. --S

The other thing is....Mandy's books are reasonably priced....As you start looking at other books on perfumery, be prepared for a little sticker shock...<G>... One of the other things I'm interested in, is gemstones and jewelry...There's a few great books out there reasonably priced, and there's many that'll empty your pockets real fast... Until I have the need for a $80-100 book, for some demanding reason, my $$$ will go into essences (or gem material) instead.... That's what's great about Mandy's E & A book....You get the basic theory and framework to approach NP...What you can create out of that, then depends on your knowledge of the essences... And believe me....the sense of smell is so directly connected to ourselves, that you can read about essences all day, but it's a *totally* different experience when you meet them... An example...I am not a fan of tuberose abs, or the concrete, for that matter...Other folks think it's divine, but I can't stand the stuff...And I've experienced a number...My reptilian just doesn't care for it...It evokes a I've smelled this stuff before/unpleasant things associated with it...though I cannot say exactly what those are... I have some, anyway....my olfactorial (is that a word?) interp of some essences has been known to change over time, sometimes....<G>...! Care... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Interesting you should say this....I was just pondering over the fact that I LOVE tuberose absolute, yet I am repulsed by wintergeen-flavored medicines and chewing gum. They make me feel positively ill. And yet there is a distinct " wintergeen " note in tuberose abs/concrete due to its methyl salicylate content....go figure.
