Guest guest
HI! I'm 45, long time aerobix and weight bunny, who, at 42, found my body becoming more womanly and my weight went up by 8 pounds....combo of midlife and just sick of a life of spartan deprivation! Weary of increasing aerobics sessions in the " " cardio wimp zone " " , bored to tears with Cathe, the Firm....I looked hopefully at my 53 year old workout rat pal, Anita as she did BFL......very dubious of her plan to slash her workouts to little more than 4 hours a week!!!! Well, she, already thin at 133 lbs, dropped to 123, and body fat percentage from 26 to 20! I'm sold! What I really find helps, is, as a 12.5 hour shift progresses, I have tons of energy at that downward slump between 2-4pm.... I slipped a few times during the holidays, suffer terrible depression, that I hide from my kids, so slipped to a glass of wine twice....but back on track as of New Year's weekend.....after only a slip or two! so I " m here!!!! Guest guest
Just wanted to say " HI " and I am definitely new to this list and to " Body for Life " . I could use any advice that someone may have. I am in the process of reading the books. I am going to the gym but only doing the treadmill right now until I get the book read. But I just wanted to get into the habit of going. Besides, my cardiovascular conditioning has something to be desired. Any way, a little about me. I am 37 yo and married. I really need to get in shape for myself and becasue we want to have a baby. I know, starting late in life. I have about 60 lbs to lose and I follow weight watchers and it hasn't been too successful for me. I eat fairly nutritionally good anyway. It is the exercising that I really need to work on. My bil has been following " Body for Life " for several years now and has had huge success on it. Only thing is--he lives over a days drive from me. So, he can't show me much. Well, I better get back to work. Hope you all have a great day! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I'm still here I tried starting before the holidays, and did well for almost a week until we got a package of presents from my husbands mother that included..ugh..a tin of peanut butter fudge and a tin of assorted homebaked cookies. That was a disaster. The past few days I have been back on track though, and my goal this time is to try and mix in some new proteins like fish (not a big fish fan, so it will be interesting)and any other stuff that counts as protein that I would have never thought to eat LOL so that I'm not always just eating chicken, lean pork, steak and eggs and cottage cheese. > > Just checking to see who's out there. Guest guest
Forgot to add that in about seven months I am going home for a three week visit. My goal right now is to throw myself into this way of life seriously, so that when the time comes to go home for a visit THIS time I will have seen some great results and be motivated enough to stick with it for that short time I am home visiting again. > > Just checking to see who's out there. Guest guest
I'm here. Been lurking/sorta posting since 2002ish. I'm BJ, 38 married and living in cold old Idaho. I have about 20 lbs to loose. Between the holidays, quitting smoking and lack of sunshine, I look like the Michilan Tire Man.......not good. I am getting my eating in check, trying to cut out the sodas, down to 1 16oz Mt. Dew a day. Trying to make it to the gym, it is only 3 minutes from my work, so I am trying to decided if I want to get all sweaty at lunch or wait till after work to go, but I am with Skwigg....have to fight all the resolutioners for the machines...oh well, if that is what it takes to get er done, the so be it. I will post pictures and stats tomorrow. BJ in Idaho
Guest guest
Hey Swigg...I'm lurking out here. I joined the group about 6 months ago after starting *another* challenge. I have been an infrequent poster but constant reader of the group every since. It has really helped me stay on track. I didn't finish the challenge from 6 months ago but I did quit smoking...which is HUGE. I have officially started a new challenge on 1/1/2006. It is going well so far. For the first time, I have actually taped my reasons for doing the challenge ( " Within 12 weeks I will... " ) in my bathroom. I am already noticing how posting those future vision statements is helping me stay focused and in the BFL mindset. Before this challenge I thought about all the things that have derailed me in the past and am working hard to avoid/overcome them this time. Smoking was one because there was always this little voice in my head that told me I would be doing SO MUCH better if I didn't smoke and it was also the thing that kept me from doing my cardio...I kept telling myself that I would make it up the next day. Well, that really didn't happen and I would end up dropping the challenge. Overeating...I get really hungry and am pretty bad about the nutrition. I " know " what to do, I just don't seem to do it. So this time, I am spending some serious time planning, cooking....and eating! So, that's my deal. I am super excited about this challenge and 2007 in general. It's going to be a good one! Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Get better soon! > > Just checking to see who's out there. Any oldtimers? Lurking newbies? How > did the holidays go? Where are you now? What's the plan? Guest guest
I did one challenge in August - November. I lost about 12-15 lbs and 6+% body fat. I dropped from size 10 to a size 6. Things were going great until December....I got a lot more lax about my workouts and a little more lax about my food. Amazingly I kept the weight off until Christmas.... when I found I am pregnant! I've gained a couple pounds of bloat and haven't done any weights since then out of pure laziness and exhaustion. I'm planning to get back on the weights and keep on the cardio as much as I can through the pregnancy. I have a history of gestational diabetes so staying on BFL will likely help keep that away this time... I'm due on my son's 4th birthday, Sept 4, but I had a c-section so I will likely have this one sometime in August by the same means. So that's where I am. Anybody else done BFL while pg? I looked at the BFL Mommies site but have noticed the sincere lack of activity in the pregnancy section. This morning I had 5 Boca sausages (I'm vegetarian) and an orange for breakfast. I had a vegetarian jerky and some " just corn " for a midmorning snack. Lunch is brown rice, tofu, and some grapes (I'm craving fruit pretty bad). Not sure what the rest of the day will bring me. Guest guest
I've been having a fantastic week so far!! Feeling really good and energetic, even with that initial bit of soreness (I was going to the gym semi-consistantly before christmas). It was really funny though, yesterday I did my UBWO and hit it REALLY hard, you know, to where the point you're in the bathroom washing your hands and can't push them together b/c the pecs are so sore. So, I did that, and then hubby and I had a dance class last night. We take ballroom together, and I'm not sure if any of the ladies have ever danced, either ballroom or ballet/jazz/modern type, but it really hurts the arms to keep them in the correct position! Everytime we would finish a little routine, I was rubbing and stretching my shoulder. Hubby and the teacher were laughing at me. Its okay, hubby can laugh...cause he's going to do lower body with me tomorrow BEFORE Cha-Cha class, then we'll see how funny he thinks it is!! As to " resolutioners " (thats a cute name for them ), luckily I get the privelidge of working out at a military base, so I don't really have to deal with that. Just the same group of core people that are always there. Hubby and I were at the gym at 5:30 this morning doing cardio. Stefanie
Guest guest
I've been reading for about a year, and occasionally chime in when I can't keep my mouth shut. I've been at maintenance weight for a couple of years, but I'm always striving to be stronger; I'd say I have a couple more pounds of muscle than I did last year at this time. I ate tons of crap (cookies, fudge, etc) during December, but kept the fat at bay by restricting my ingestion of it to the mornings, within a few hours of my workout. It's only when I keep eating it all afternoon and then settle into a fresh pound of chocolates in the evening that I really get into trouble. Guest guest
I made a chocolate cake last night and we all ate it, even the baby. We haven't started the program yet. WIth the holidays, getting rent property finished up so we can rent it... seems like we will never get to a place where we can even stop to look at the treadmill, much less use it. So, needless to say, I am discouraged. BUT! I did get my brand new calipers and found out that I am not quite as fat as I thought....25% - nine months after having a baby, isn't too shabby! My husband is trying to keep me interested in the idea of starting this challenge, but I am a bit whiney about it all right now. Cori Hyland Who's With Us? Just checking to see who's out there. Guest guest
This is my one year anniversary for BFL and this group. I finished my first challenge last April (losing almost 20 pounds) and have been maintaining since. I had set this group to no mail for the past several months, but now that the holidays are over, I'm getting back into the swing of things and ready to start over for bikini season. I noticed the diet/nutrition section at the grocery store today was completely wiped out. > > Just checking to see who's out there. Any oldtimers? Lurking newbies? How > did the holidays go? Guest guest
I'm Kate and have been reading emails from this wonderful group since last January. I started a challenge last January and never finished for whatever reason.started another one in April and in week 11 my DH was offered a job back in NC so our life was thrown off track instantly as we put our house on the market and prepared to move. So. I never sent in my packet. I had pretty good results, I lost about 11lbs and I'm not sure about BF because my Tanita sucks. Anyway, I looked and felt great. I continued to attempt the BFL lifestyle, making it to the gym when I could and eating clean as often as possible. I was doing " okay " until I decided to JUMP off the wagon in December. I'm not sure what I was thinking but I decided to just do WHATEVER I wanted during December. What a dumb and idiotic thing to do. I gained 10lbs.ugh. I'm officially entering a challenge. Yesterday was my first day. My goals are to finish no matter what and try not to be so " all or nothing " about it. I'll post my pics sometime this week. My stats are: 5' 6 " 169 lbs Who knows what my BF is. I'm going to try and get a caliper reading at the gym this week. I'm guessing it's around 30%. Last year at this weight, my bodyfat was: Tanita 38% Omrom 32% and calipers at the gym 23%. Ridiculous huh? I would love for the scale to read 150-155 at the end of the challenge. I know it's possible!! I look forward to all the support and info everyone has to offer! Guest guest
Hey Skwigg! I'm a lurker but I'm hoping to be more active in the group with the new year. I'm a 27 year old mom of two from Prince Island, Eastern Canada. Christmas was great, my kids had a wonderful time and got lots of fun toys from Santa Claus! Like you Skwigg I threw out all the remaining Christmas treats, if it's not here I can't eat it! My goal for this year is to continue with maintaining my weight loss and lose a bit more. I went from 264.5 and right now I'm at 148. I'd like to get to 135. The biggest problem I have is the weird allergy I have. I can't eat any type of cheese/yogurt/dairy. Even soy milk gives me grief so cottage cheese and such is out. Whey proteins and soy proteins also cause me problems. The only one I've had luck with so far is rice protein which is pretty bland on it it's own. Anyone else in a similar boat in regards to dairy allergies? I'm hoping to get to know everyone with this new year. Guest guest
I have been around but mostly a lurker. I lost 17 pounds in 2006. I never make new years resolutions relating to fitness and health as that gives me permission to break them and I live BFL as a lifestyle. If I fall off I get right back on the second I can. But I do have some 12 week goals for myself. 1. Keep a journal I do much better if I am honest and write it down. 2. Mix up my weight routine with some circuits. Going to use Jillian s and my trainer for this. 3. Drink less diet pop! Definitely my biggest weakness. Michele T.
Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this board but not new to BFL. I followed the " plan " several years ago and I was in the best shape of my life. Now after two kids I'm ready to make the committment again. I don't plan to officially enter the contest, just follow the guidelines for a more healthy lifestyle. - > > Just checking to see who's out there. Any oldtimers? Lurking newbies? Guest guest
Just chiming in. I've been here since 2002 - always read the msgs - sometimes post - ready for 2007! Really got into Berardi this summer which led to a few other interesting things (like magnificent mobility, etc). But always I am here 'cause it's the best board for support and encouragement. Guest guest
I'm still here too. I did a search on my posts to see how long I've been reading this forum...and I've been here since 2002!! WOW! I've always loved this group; everyone has been so helpful and supportive. I love that I've been here since 2002, but it's depressing to think that i've been trying to lose the same weight for 5-6 years. I honestly think this time it's different for me. I am finally ready, mentally. I am 31 years old, single-but I have been dating the love of my life for the past 8 years. I live in northern Indiana. I workout at home--i have a weight bench and Power Block nested weights. I love to run outside, even when it's freezing out. I am 5'2'' and currently weigh....ugh....169. I just started my clean eating and working out again on Monday (January 1st), and that day I weighed myself and I was 172. I've lost 3 pounds in about 2 days, simply from the water weight that I had eating CRAP all the time. I LOVE to eat. That is how I got this way in the first place--I was 125-135 pounds when in college and in the Air Force. Anyway...I know how I got this way, and I know how to fix it. The Palm/Fist method, 6 meals a day, knowing what I should/shouldn't eat, etc is second nature to me, since I've been around here for so long. I just need to follow it!! I'm totally rambling. GOOD LUCK to everyone, and stay strong! Kim > > Just checking to see who's out there. Any oldtimers? Lurking newbies? How > did the holidays go? Where are you now? What's the plan? Guest guest
Hey, I'm still here and still with the program. I lurk/scan the posts a lot. My workouts have kind of evolved into those circuit type lifting workouts you noted instead of the original BFL workouts that really were the foundation for my transformation. I do a lot of upper/lower circuits because of the energy required to pump blood back and forth from upper to lower is tremendous. I like the afterburn because it is proof I can feel that something positive is happening. I turned 50 this year and as I mentioned before, did a real midlife crisis thing and went back to the horses like I did as a child and teenager. New Year's day I went foxhunting. Sort of an extreme sport that leaves both horse and rider exhausted and adrenaline overdosed. My philosophies have not changed in the six years I have done BFL. Nor have my habits regarding food. I still go through a 2 pound tub of protein powder a month as well as a 42 serving package of Myoplex lite, thanks to www.vitaglo.com. I've given up the gluey tasting bars though for balance gold crunch and Luna Bars when needed and the occasional Detour. If there is any one food that has contributed most to my muscle growth and has been the protein that is always in my fridge it is cottage cheese. Eggs run a close second. Hope everyone has a happy healthy new year, and takes BFL one meal at a time and one workout at a time. Stay in the moment and make each session at the table and in the gym count toward your success. Guest guest
hi renee and everyone, i guess i never intro'd myself. my bad i'm sher, i'm over 40, and i'm a chocoholic. oops, wrong crowd. seriously, i've been lurking and occasionally asking annoying questions as i began gearing up for my very first challenge. i was psyched to officially start on january 1; but sadly, i've been quite ill with a nasty virus and fever, which i suspect my eight-year-old shared with me. i have a somewhat compromised immune system (a genetic thing -- thanks, mom and dad!), so it takes me a tad bit longer to get healthier. but i will. but that recent diagnosis, tipped off after i ended up in the hospital because i almost lost all of my platelets (THAT was interesting when you get past the freakish part of it all), is just what is kicking my butt. you see, i can't control my genes. i can't control the fact that i may one day have to get some awfully expensive IVs of treatments to help me fight infections. but what i *can* control, and what i am now hell-bent-and-determined to control, is how i feel and how i live. i've got two great kids, a husband i kinda like, a family that kinda likes me (in spite of knowing me all their lives and knowing better), and a lot of friends who seem to tolerate me. i have to be around for all of these people. i just do. now, i have been on a zillion diets since i was 9, but this is the very first time something has clicked with me. a life change. i *get* this. i really think i do. and i can do this. not just for 12 weeks. so i am anxious to get started. but i also know that you really can't work out when you've got 104F. and i'm in for the long haul. and i'm so glad to meet y'all. and i'm so grateful people have been so kind as to answer my insane questions already. so you know - i'm shooting for next monday, if not sooner. anyway, hi thanks for letting me join up! ~sher > > Just checking to see who's out there. Guest guest
Hi , I'm planning on plugging ahead. I am faced with my biggest challenge yet. My schedule is changing. I go from at home to seasonal tax account/mom-wife-person-caregiver for the next 3.5 months! That means working out in the morning (before kids go to school...I HATE mornings!...or at night after all go to bed). Last tax season I tried BFL for 8 weeks. Crashed! Saw no results, became frustrated, and put it on hold until after the busy season (I kept some moderation, but nothing to speak of). The eating was easiest this time of year as I have to pack what I eat...and small portions are fast in between clients. May-Sept I tried again. Sept I got a PT, although we deviated from the BFL program as far as method, the eating and 6 days a week stayed the same. I went from 5'2, 126 pounds (34%BF) to 116 pounds (28%BF). The surprising thing to me is although I lost BF and gained strength (from 3 to 30 push ups and 1 1/2 pull ups) my lean body mass stayed the same during this time period. I like the 10 pounds of fat loss though. I'm really going to try to continue this next 12 weeks; take your suggestions, and just do my personal best. My goal in this next 12 weeks is to make it to 21%BF. My progress is slow but steady. I'm looking for a change/way of life, so I am in no hurry. The past year taught me what my strength and weaknesses are---Looking forward to the next 12! Thanks for all the great resources. It truly is mind over mattress, but I like that mattress! I've been around here for seven years, which is like an eon in internet time. I threw out all of the holiday treats a few days ago. The pumpkin bread, cookies and truffles went without incident, but I accidentally ate three huge bites of chocolate cake on my way to the trash can. Oops! LOL I'm starting the new year all germy and sick. I've missed a couple of workouts but I'm hoping to get back to the gym tomorrow. It's probably going to be a zoo with all the " resolutioners " running around. I just ate breakfast - cottage cheese, fresh pineapple and crushed macadamia nuts sweetened with splenda. Now I'm debating between vegging in front of the computer or shuffling toward the television to watch the Oprah 20th Anniversary Collection DVDs I got for Christmas. Love those things! See, I do watch something besides fighting. :-) Anyway, what's up with you guys? How's it going today?

Guest guest
Hi and everyone, I hope you're feeling better soon . Just wanted to let you guys know that I am still around and will complete my first challenge in one week. I'm really proud of myself for getting this far. I feel so much stronger physically and mentally. I'm pretty happy with my results given that I wasn't as strict over the last six weeks or so, feeling a bit tired, shin splints troubles, trying to get through christmas, the holidays and having a visitor staying with me at the moment. Unfortunately, I didn't take my measurements at the beginning of the program which I now regret, but I have lost 10kgs (22lbs), so far. I'm happy with my loss although I think my results would have been more dramatic had I ended the program with the same focus and vigour that I had started it with. The best thing for me was being able to pick myself back up when I fell off the wagon for a few days over Christmas, whereas in the past I would have felt like a failure and stopped completely. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself because I just can't believe the things I am doing now, like jogging outdoors and running up and down stairs (157 steps x 10 times) like I did yesterday. I was amazed that I could have easily continued except that it was dark and mosquito's were attacking me. I'm not sure if US and Australian dress sizes are the same but I went from a size 16 top to a 12 and a size 18 to 14 bottom. I'm looking forward to seeing my grandma today for the first time in six months as I'm now 76kgs (167lbs) as opposed to the last time she saw me when I was 97kgs (213lbs). I'm planning to start challenge 2 as soon as my first one has finished. I'll try and be brave next week and post some pics as I always found other people's before and after pics really motivating. I just want to say thank you with all my heart to all the active members here for supporting me during my challenge and for answering all my questions etc. I wouldn't have gotten through this challenge if it wasn't for the information and support I recieved here. Wishing everyone continued success with your challenges. All the best dea xx > > Just checking to see who's out there. Any oldtimers? Lurking newbies? How > did the holidays go? Where are you now?
