Guest guest
Hello , Go to our 'files' section to the folder on " Careers " . Click to open (opens into Word) and peruse. This list was compiled from some of our earliest discussions on careers and CMT - it involved the input of many persons with CMT, as well as persons with CMT who are members and have occupations in these fields. Focus on what your nephew CAN do, what his talents are, what his 'gifts' are. It is unfortunate that there is so much negativity floating about regarding CMT. However, assistive devices, job accommodation under ADA, etc., can in fact be helpful to those that need them. There are many people with CMT who have had stellar jobs, careers, without needing anything, who are still gainfully employed. I started my own career out as a Curator of Art in a museum following 2 degrees in art history and prior part time work in retail sales to put myself through school. From the Curator position, I held positions in Exhibit Design, then 'accidentally' wrote a grant for a BIG art exhibit, it was totally funded, I discovered I was good at Fundraising and voila, spent the next 15-20 years in non-profit Fundraising and Public Relations. About 10 years ago, fundraising started to get dirty, corrupt, and polluted. I left and set myself up as a Eco-Travel Agent with a specialty market. I also became a partner in an Animal Services business. I left the TA biz to do more travel on my own, focus more on the animal biz, and write, which is where I am today. I learned early on that CMT does not affect one's brain, and since it is my best muscle, I make sure I use it. Any job/career I have tried, I have always done my best, worked hard, and made many people so mad because I was so good, lol. CMT has never stopped me from any career/job I wanted to try, and I believe it never will. I am also pursuing a very specialized law career this year and next which I am very excited about. I only wish that I had a more open mind in my younger years to pursue multiple careers at once - similiar to how one 'diversifies' financial assetts. I have found that career 'diversity' and using the career experience and assetts I have just keeps those doors swinging wide open. A positive attitude and enthusiasm go along way too! ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Of course, almost everything is possible. I have CMT from 4 yrs old (now: 39) and I work as editor in weekly magazine. Maybe we can't play in NBA, but there is a lot of opportunities in life. Keep on going ) Bob from Croatia
