Guest guest
, 18 months today, is still not walking on his own. I'm thinking we should order a pediatric gait trainer/walker for him, but we've tried various ones at the PT and none really fit him well. He just pushes forward with his chest and does a bunny hop. He's very pronated and still drags his right leg behind because it's longer (I assume scoliosis). Would you mind sharing your experiences with walkers (brand names, type, pictures, anything)? I'm also very concerned about his core strength in this cast. The exercises recommended so far by the PT are hard to do because cannot sit without his legs turning purple (unless he leans back on something). So, exercises like sitting on an exercise ball and moving him from side to side doesn't work. He can't kneel on one leg. He can only walk if I hold his hands...he can't walk if I only hold his hips. Core strength can decrease in kids with these casts, correct? It would be nice to have some standard exercises in our manual (to come one day) for kids in these casts who can't do some of the 'regular' core strengthing exercises because of the cast restrictions, esp. the hip area. I welcome any suggestions (or exercise suggestions) you might have. Lastly...are you all still doing 'scoliosis' exercises in the cast (whichever ones are still possible)? And if so, which ones? Thanks! > > > > > > My little girl Isabelle is 14 months. She was diagnosed at around > > 12 > > > months with progressive idiopathic infantile scoliosis.
