Guest guest
Good morning! Thank you so much for replying! It makes me feel much better. I have been talking to the nurse at ish and she gave me instructions and also she said that Dr. ston will be there Wed afternoon and they will tell him. She is thinking that maybe they will move up her surgery date. I will need to continue giving Gabby her pain medication and keep her off traction until further guidance. I really appreciate those people at ish, they really seem to care and follow up very carefully and with dignity. Regarding a local Dr., she was asking me about that too, but I don't think her local Pediatrician would even try to touch the halo that way. She is a sweet, wise Doctor, but that is not her field, I think she would just helps us with the pain management, which is great. Her Orthopedist in Pensacola hasn't even checked with us since she was referred to Dallas! I feel so dissapointed! He might be smart, one of the best in the field and all, but I expected at least a phone call from his nurses, and since July 2007 when we were referred to Dallas, I have not heard from them besides a bill that I've received at the beginning of August. Go figure! I know that he is supposed to be the best around here and I owe him the referral and even maybe the fact that they accepted us there, but am I wrong by feeling let down by the lack of communication there? Am I being too touchy or too sensitive? Have you been in that situation before. I know I shouldn't even bother to waste my feelings on that, but when I remember him I truly feel dissapointed. Connie, thanks for talking to me and for letting me vent! May you and your family have a blessed New Year! I wish you all health and blessings beyond human understanding! Guest guest
Esther, This happened to Mo once during her second halo. The ortho we saw locally (who didn't know surgically what to do with her) was able to tighten the pin back down again. Shellie " A. Esther " wrote: Good morning all! Guest guest
Esther, It must be very difficult being so far away.... can't imagine not being able to go see the doctor when things like pins getting loose happens...and it happens quite a bit! Although, with it was 10 months of halo traction so it was bound to happen sooner or later. I don't think he got any loose pins the first three months. When was surgery originally set? We are going in in February to get his first expansion. Please let me know what Doctor ston decides. Happy new year!! Guest guest
Hello. My son has been in halo traction since the end of August. He has to go to the orthodotic place every 3 weeks and see if his pins are loose. Occasionally he has had to have them tightened, which he says is painful. I was told if one of the pins were loose then he would have a headache. I can't imagine your child not having to have checks on the pins. Good luck. , 's mom " A. Esther " wrote: Good morning all! Guest guest
My son has halo traction. He does not have any extra pins, only the 4 screwed into his head. He has had the halo traction since August and does very well with it, considering. We were told only the orthodotic place that placed the halo pins should mess with it due to the seriousness of having someone do something with something that they know nothing about. Good luck. , 's mom tovi39@... wrote: This has happend to Many times. Call the doctor..I'm sure he will tell you to see a local doctor to remove it. They put extra pins on for this reason. Guest guest
Thank you! Dr. ston called us tonight and he suggested the same thing! He told us that we could go to Dallas or we could try to see our local Specialist early Wednesday. I just hope he is there! Thanks again! Happy New Year! Guest guest
Hi ! We do go to Texas every three weeks. It's just the first time that one of her pins gets loose. She was complaining about a headache, but she has those often. After her last pin care and check, this weekend, we noticed that there was a loose pin, and even though I knew this could happen, it just freaked us out. Now, after talking to her Dallas doctor, I have the choice to go have it tighten by her local Ortho in Pensacola or go to Dallas Wednesday morning. Of course I will try Pensacola first! Thanks for the reply! Esther If anyone speaks ill of you, Praise them always. If anyone injures you, Serve them nicely. If anyone persecutes you, Help them in all possible ways. Guest guest
Wow! I see different approaches to Halo Traction. Well, Gabby has eight pins on her head. The local Orthopedist is a very well known doctor in the Orthopedia world in the States. His name is Doctor Stanton and everyone we've seen so far seems to have him in high regards. He is older and probably will retire really soon, that's why he doesn't work on Halo Traction treatments anymore, but even Doctor ston seems to be very keen of him, that's a relief! All I need now is to find him on Wednesday morning when everyone returns to work after the holidays, hopefully!!! Esther If anyone speaks ill of you, Praise them always. Guest guest
Good morning ! Yes. We make this trip all the way to Texas and it takes us about 12 hours each way. But what parent wouldn't do it? Regarding the referral, Gabby situation is so extreme, complex and so dangerous that the best place for her is the ish Rite in Dallas. Even our Insurance company couldn't find another closer place for her, and let me tell you that they really tried! I must tell you though that getting accepted there is not as easy. Besides God's will, the fact that Gabby is from Texas, my husband is in the military who has chosen to keep his Texas residency, still has his Texas drivers license, my mother is a resident of Texas, and resides there of course, was very key. They work for the people of Texas, and we just happen to be in Florida because of the military. Our home is Texas. However, please don't let that stop you, if you are not a Texan. You must apply to be accepted in that hospital and your Doctor can help you, he/she must help you with the application process. If you ever have any questions about that wonderful hosptial, please do not hesitate to ask. Happy New Year, ! Esther If anyone speaks ill of you, Praise them always. Guest guest
, Where do you guys live? Dr. is in San , TX. Where you go depends on what the plan of care for is. Are they wanting to place metal instrumentation after the halo? Are you considering the VEPTR? I have a lot of contacts in San I could provide you with. They use ISOPs Halo Traction booklet and are familiar with what we do. I also know of a good church there . . . Shellie lisa poorman wrote: My word! What a trip for you to make every 3 weeks!
