Hi ,

Applications for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) can only

be made by using paper forms or using the on-line forms. No phone

applications are available; however, SSI, Supplemental Security

Income applications, are made this way.

Back to SSDI: I recommend using the new on-line application process.

It is user-friendly, and if you need to stop in the middle of it, you

will be given a ID number, so you can return and finish it later.

Once you have all your background paperwork with you, Drs. letters,

medical tests results, your work history, it is very straight

forward. There is a section where you will need to describe the

nature of your illness in your own words, and explain why you are no

longer able to work (listt symptoms and what it is that you cannot

do, example: " hand tremors - no longer possible to type without

tremor surges, and tremor medication causes extreme drowsiness " .

I would also recommend going to the Online site, getting the

Disability Starter kit, as this will help you get the information

organized for your application. Here's the link for the site

http://www.ssa.gov/disability/ and here's the one to download the

starter kit

http://www.ssa.gov/disability/disability_starter_kits.htm and here's

the link to the on-line SSDI application. Remember, you need to have

already stopped working when you apply.

With the start of the on-line application, SSA hopes to cut the

waiting time of approval in 1/2. There's no need to go into your

local SSA office in person, unless you are called in at a later date.

I hope this helps some.
