I'm not sure which article is being referred to. If it's the PDF, it's not

an article; it's a letter written by (so every word about him

is true).

< was my hero when I was a kid. I still remember the Russian,

who had never seen , and how his jaw DROPPED as this little 2legged

barrel walked by him, snatched and jerked the weight the Russian had just

lifted like it was a toy, then waddled off the stage. went on and

increased the WW for snatch by like 100 lbs or something; I don'tremember.

Now, as to this article. The writer has it all wrong. worked out in

his barn on the farm by squatting with the axle of a wagon. I have seen that

axle. In fact, in later years, he had it mounted in his front yard in such a

way that it could be used as part of his mail box...in concrete...anyway, he

squatted with it in reps. It was bent in the middle from its own weight on

the ends of the axle and him in the middle. They had it weighed. It weighed

1206 pounds. That's where the number 1206 came from. Yes he did it. He did it

all the time for practice, but it wasn't the Silver lifts.

Here are some really crummy films of 's " show " lifts:

But, here is the famous tractor axle and wheels:

Mind you...NO steroids. None, zip. Nada. One other story I recall was that

after retired, he was so muscle bound that there was some question

as to how long he'd live... Mayo Clinic offered to help him reduce his muscle

bulk for free just for the opportunity to study the matter. I don't know if

they ever did it...

was on TV several years ago...he had diabetes and was still pretty

large...working or caring for boys in a home of some kind...he died just a

couple of years ago as a result of the diabetes... >
