I have a chamber if this is helpful to you. Lee Silsby has a formula to go with Hbot also. I heard just 48 hours ago zinc & carnitine very important for apraxia. (Levinson Atlanta DAN) Is he on Methyl B 12 shots? It sounds like this is a severe challenge for him and most therapy approaches would yield small results. Sonrise really gets to the core of the person wanting to connect with others. Not knowing your son I cannot say if this would be helpful. No HBOT yet..as I want to do the hard chamber one. We are going to try AIT in the fall. He loves to communicate and he verbalizes all the time. DO you know anyone who does son-rise therapy? Crawford of The Learning Lane brought these individuals to Houston a few years ago and the seminar was awesome. It didn't help because I probably did it wrong, but I saw the endless videos of all the kids it did help. We don't have any money for outside speech, so if we can get Medicaid to agree to pay it, and I can find a speech therapist who knows this technique who also takes Medicaid, I might just try it again. Many getting good results with 40 dives at 1.3. Low and slow Sonrise is parent run. You travel to Massachusettes for the start-up program. However I'm happy to share what I know with you for free to see if this is something you should pursue further. In the fall I'll be in Dr Pothuluri's office on Tuesdays to support families w/ info such as play therapy/diet etc.... Basically you'd hire or find volunteers to work in a focus room with your son. But you'd be the director of the program. Sounds like your son has lots of info in there and has interest to share, but struggles to express. Though I think sonrise would benefit any of our kids at any ages, it sounds like we have to keep digging to help his apraxia. I'll see what I can find. Krigsman does aggressive steroid treatments to bring down inflammation and then goes down to less aggressive, but this treatment would give you clues. I've never been to Thoughtful House to see Krigsman, but I would have. I never check my private yahoo emails. Guest guest Posted July 20, 2009 Report Share Posted July 20, 2009 What about an OT with experience with low oral muscle tone.  My son had feeding therapy for 2 years with all sorts of exercises to de-sensitize his mouth.  Carnitor (levocarnitine) really helped my son's oral muscle control.  He was verbal at that point, but lots of mispronunciations.  Also got him able to feel/control food in his mouth so he could eat without gagging and vomiting Bonnie, mom to 11/27/04, Autism, Albinism, Hyperlexia  I'll listen again, maybe it was creatine, not carnitine. It basically helps those with Appraxia alone...in my opinion. why can't he say it My son is still non-verbal.. He has a great receptive language and communicates his needs via the Dynavox and some gibberish pronunciation of very limited words. He was diagnosed with Apraxia as well. Some say he has oral-motor issues. Others think this is just a behavior (verbal behavior crowd)...The bottom line is that he tries but the sounds don't come out as they suppose to.For example:If I say...say "Mommy", he would say "appa" or "pa"If I say ...say "Open:, he would say "Puh"There are still sounds that he can not make such M.L.N.CEE, F,J, V,Z......We have done typical speech therapy which helped with his receptive language...but the speech has not improved. Plus, I thought that Thoughtful House did a research and came out with no conclusions on their soft chambers. I can barely make to Kroger..Massachusetts is out of the question for now. I was listening to Wakefield and if I understand correctly, what caused the initial set up for problems down stream might not be visible. Or do you believe your son didn't have gut issues to begin with? I believe we are getting closer to having stem cell therapies available in the US for trials for autism soon for the older kids. You've done so much to help heal the body, and the stem cell reports are that the cells target areas of damage in the brain. As for Hbot, I'm hearing/reading hard chamber for infections like lyme, but low and slow with soft chamber for hypoxia. Many dives, some responding in 40.....some need many more. LDN is easy to try if you haven't yet. We're using it. As with everything we've done...subtle, yet positive change with this intervention. I hear you on Kroger's trip! He has oral motor problems and was learning to chew. They have helped our son with his speech and started him on the road to food chaining. After a year of ABA we have started to go back to Team Approach to help our son with his chewing and oral motor skills. For example, if he says "appa", run get an apple in a hugely excited way exclaiming "you said apple so I got you an apple." We did the Son-Rise program for two years and then blended in other things. When we were at The Option Institute for our family intensive, they video recorded my husband working with my son. There was a very enlightening moment where my husband was holding out a juice box and saying "say juice". My son kept making this same weird sound. They slowed the tape down and got us to really listen to it. It turned out that my son was saying "I don't want it" but his mouth was so lazy and his auditory processing was so messed up that it came out as a sort of "eyeowana". When we started believing that his sounds were communication and responding in a huge way, he speech took off. I've done this with other kids I've worked with since and have found it to almost always lead to more communication. Gaylen What's for dinner tonight?
