There is no set time to drink KT, except maybe in certain instances of a

person's weakened health. The rule of thumb I used is to start out slow to see

how your body reacts to it, if at all. In the first week, I started just washing

down my vitamins and supplements with it and taking a couple more gulps every

day. Now I drink as much as I want, which is not yet a whole lot because I have

to learn different things to put in that secondary brew that makes it so that I

want to drink more. I have ginger in my KT right now and after 10 days and 2 qts

or more, I am gingered out. I never liked soda, and KT is not as fizzy as soda,

but it is still fizzy. So I have to find that " cream soda " taste that was the

only soda I liked and could drink the most of growing up. That cream flavoring

took the sharpness off of the carbonation for me. I am open to any suggestions

others have in their years of experience. I look forward to drinking more

quantities once my second brew is poured off. It is not there yet, but I think

it will be in a few more days.

So just trying to get a feel for how much others drink per day, at what times of

day, and empty stomach or after a meal? Thanks for any input.

I think that's very strange! There is already yeast in the Kombucha,

why would you want to introduce yet another different yeast into your

brew? I guess, you were referring to the 2nd fermentation time there?

Lyn,

For flavor I just add 2 pieces of frozen fruit to 8 - 16 oz of kt (and water

kefir).

I drink at least 16 oz a day and more like 48 ounces. My production does

not keep up with my consumption yet so I still buy a fair bit. So my bottle

collection is growing. LOL

I just cleaned out the fridge last night to make room for when I bottle the

3 gallons I have ready. Hopefully that will slow down my purchasing some

and save me some money for a minute. There is a woman locally who has

experimented with temperature variations to speed production and I think she

has been able to get hers ready to bottle within a few days. It all sounds

like too much work to me and of course that theory about letting it ferment

for at least 10 days to get maximum " health " benefits. I have to research

that more as I am unsure what it is the longer fermenting does.

I will say. The KT I make at home reminds me more of the way GTs was before

all the brew ha ha. In that, I am very sensitive to alcohol, and drinking a

glass of mine at home gives me that very slight buzz I used to get from

GTs. Even the not " enlightened " versions of GTs I have found lately do not

have that same kick.

I think Lyn was trying to figure out how to make her KT taste more like

creme soda. What about a second ferment with vanilla bean and a pinch of

sugar maybe? No additional yeasts as KT already supplies that. I am not

thinking a vanilla bean by itself to have enough sugars to get a good second

ferment going but if you added just a touch of sugar when you added it? Or

you could try vanilla extracts of course but that just doesn't sound

appealing to me.

I saw the correction you made to the yeast thing. That's funny. Goes to show you

gotta be careful what you tell this newcomer on here cuz I'll believe anything

until I get up to speed on my own. :-)

I went right for the vanilla now for the rest of that brew to see if it would

help me get it down. I have two bottles that will not be opened for another day

or two, plus what I have open to finish today. I will add stevia at the point of

drinking it if I need to, but I don't think I will.

There is no set time to drink KT, except maybe in certain instances of a

person's weakened health. The rule of thumb I used is to start out slow to see

how your body reacts to it, if at all. In the first week, I started just washing

only soda I liked and could drink the most of growing up. That cream flavoring

took the sharpness off of the carbonation for me. I am open to any suggestions

others have in their years of experience. I look forward to drinking more

quantities once my second brew is poured off. It is not there yet, but I think

it will be in a few more days.

After you ramped up to that amount, which is much more than I drink (no more

than 8 oz), did you notice any significant health benefits? Thanks all for your

informative responses!

Oh and Jaxi, do you have a preference of empty stomach or no? Like , I

like to drink before a meal. But then I was thinking that it may also aid

digestion.

I also get that slight buzz w/ my homebrew, but I got it w/ GTs also. :)

like to drink before a meal. But then I was thinking that it may also aid

digestion.

I also get that slight buzz w/ my homebrew, but I got it w/ GTs also. :)

Subject: Re: how much KT per day

After you ramped up to that amount, which is much more than I drink (no more

than 8 oz), did you notice any significant health benefits? Thanks all for your

I will try more in the way of fruit next time. I want to find some peppermint to

try, too. Peppermint formerly grew wild on my dad's lawn around a certain

telephone pole, but somehow it disappeared over the years because there has been

none there. Back before I knew anything about how to use it. I should ask him if

any exists around there somewhere else. Do you use the store-bought frozen

fruit? Or do you use your own that you froze from fresh? I ask because that

store-bought stuff seems void of flavor and I wondered if KT can pull good stuff

out of that anyway.

Health Benefits - this is a hard one for me because KT is not the only thing

I consume with proported health benefits. So how do I tease out what is

being helped/caused by what? My ulcerative colitis is in remission and my

digestion seems to be working better, and since I also do not have a gall

bladder any more I definetly know when my gut is unhappy. My rosacea is

signficantly better (and I am using less of the prescription gel). My skin

in general is looking better. My hair is curlier. I believe but find it

hard to quantify that my liver is working better. I have lost 40 plus

pounds over the last year. My chronic pain levels are down. I sleep

better.

But ... I also use LDN (low dose naltrexone) and high amounts of Vit C and

top shelf quality fish oil and and and ... you see my problem.

I drink KT because I really like it. I crave it when I have not had any.

As for when I drink it. 16 - 32 ounces during the day at work. After

breakfast. Before, during, after lunch. I sip it throughout the work day.

If I spend my full day in the office I for sure go through 2 - 16 oz bottles

by the end of the day. I don't care if it is warm or cold, tastes good to

me either way. I do think I eat less when I have my KT throughout the day.

I seem less likely to snack on things. On days when i am out seeing clients

I may not have any until evening when I get home.

At night I usually have 16 ounces mixed with the juice of one fresh lemon.

I drink maybe a quarter to a third of it before dinner. I might sip a

little during the meal but find I don't tend to drink during a meal much. I

finish it off after the meal. On busy days this might be all I have.

If I have my evening homemade KT I find I rarely crave/need a dessert.

Hands down I prefer my homemade KT. I really enjoy the flavor and find it

more satifying somehow.

Do you still get the buzz from the GTs now? I can feel it a little but not

nearly as much as I used to and as I can from what I make at home.

Oh ... I can tell you ... when I first started drinking KT I think my liver

was pretty messed up (okay I know it was). Anyway, after I would drink KT

my lips would kind of swell and tingle. At first I thought maybe I was

allergic somehow. Then I realized I was detoxing. I don't get that

anymore, but it was rather freaky when I did. LOL

Wow, that's amazing!! I congratulate you on your success toward making yourself

healthier. I am like you in that I don't think I can point specifically to KT

since I am a vegan and eat lots of raw foods and tend to be quite healthy

anyway. I do have chronic pain though so I am hoping to getting some relief from

that w/ KT. Interestingly, I'm juice fasting today, as well as drinking KT, and

I am noticing some of my pain symptoms are quite light.

I don't really buy commercial now that I homebrew so I can't report on the 'buzz

effects' of GT's.
