Hi Mom of Just diagnosed 5 year old girl!

Welcome. What a tough spot to be where you are at right now. The one thing

that struck me in your post was:

" Anything any of you might have done differently if you could go back

to where I am now? "

My answer is YES, YES, YES! [i just finished reading 's response to you

and I agree 150 %!!]

When my son was first diagnosed, I didn't even know how to use a computer,

or internet (no clue) and wasn't aware there was a OCD foundation-National and

in my state. So I just took him to a therapist that the pediatrician

recommended...she put him on paxil and met with him weekly to 'talk'. After 8

months of this 'treatment' my son's ocd exploded and we couldn't even leave the

house. Then when I finally found out about the ocd foundation, I found a

suitable treatment center (more than an hour away). Since Mike has been to CBT

with ERP, he has progressed tremendously. Of course he has some other things

going on, but if I could go back to where you were, I'd research a good

therapist and start with CBT and ERP. My feeling is that his ocd would not have

progressed as far as it did. Of course hindsight is 20/20. :)

Hang in there, pick this group's brain, and take good care of yourself.

They do get better. Mike was diagnosed at 9 (but I thought something was going

on before that) exploded around 10, and finally got him to CBT and ERP right

before 11. At one point he was washing 300 times/day, and erasing all his

schoolwork. Now, at almost 14, it is hard to get him into the shower every

other day!! We strive for moderation. Hugs to you, in NJ

Just as the Re: line says. My daughter was diagnosed last week, and

we're still a little in shock. I am reading " Obsessive Compulsive

Disorder, Help for Children and Adolesents " to try to get a better

grasp on this. I imagine I'll do alot more reading too.
