Guest guest
Steve, You need to determine if the problem with the carpet is off-gassing, bioaerosol or both (which is a possibility even with new carpet since some portion of carpet manufacturing involves immersion in water). It's actually not so difficult to figure out the problem. To stop all VOC emissions, you need a foil covering (like Dennyfoil from Dennysales in FL). This will stop most (but not all) bioaerosol as well. To stop bioaerosol entirely, use Carpet Protecion from www.Pro-Tect.com, an adhesive backed poly. If its the off-gassing, some carpets take years and you may have to remove it. Test it and then don't wait any more to take action. If it's bioaerosol, treatment with steam vapor may eliminate the allergens. (This is NOT steam cleaning; check out: <http://www.housekeepingchannel.com/showarticle.php?id=565>) This might also speed up the off-gassing, but don't count on it to solve the odor problem. C.
