Guest guest
Thanks for this Patty. The horrible pharma / chemical industry backers from quackwatch go after the fine doctors and scientists who are researching this multi- faceted syndrome ... We need more research and they want to stop progress ... From the damages we've seen in our own women ... we know what we need is MORE unbiased, non-chemical industry research ... Guest guest
Speaking of Quackwatch....here is what another professional has to say about head spokesperson Dr. Barrett's ability to understand this important subject...seems that he fails! http://www.acsh.org/healthissues/newsID.887/healthissue_detail.asp " Surprised " I am surprised you printed Dr. Barrett's article on multiple chemical sensitivity [ " MCS: Mis-Concern Serious, " Vol. 11, No. 1, 1999, p. 6] without rebuttal. His ignorance of working laboratory tools and developments since 1990 in the field of clinical toxicology and clinical neurotoxicology ap-pears profound. See, for example: Lotti M. Neurotoxicology: The Cinderella of Neuroscience. Neurotoxicology 1996 (Summer): 17(2):313 321; and Costa, LG, Manzo, L. Bio-chemical Markers of Neurotoxicity: Research Strategies and Epidemiological Applica-tions. Toxicology Letter 1992 (Dec): 6465. Dr. Barrett's article fails to include important references to detoxification profiles and re-lated laboratory studies (clinical laboratory science), such as organic acid profiling. In " MCS patients " the detoxification profile measures¬via sodium benzoate challenge, acetaminophen challenge, and caffeine challenge¬actual liver clearance rates (i.e., like glo-merular filtration rates in kidney diseases) that establish clinically relevant features of failed detoxification in MCS patients. Cytochrome P-450 enzymes (known as phase and phase II glutathione S-transferase pathways) are tested, yielding numbers with reference ranges evidencing failed detoxification in MCS patients. Dr. Barrett apparently doesn't have a clue as to what is going on in the actual testing and treating of MCS patients. He sets up, bullies, and knocks down straw men in theoretical debates that are totally devoid of a working knowledge of impaired, compromised liver function in real, live MCS patients and of the testing, profiling, and treatment of such patients. Jaundice, other physical symptoms, sensitivity to multiple chemicals with cognitive symptoms¬all rooted in impaired liver function and fully profiled with numbers and reference ranges via liver challenges and liver function studies¬are not theoretical. Guest guest
What a find, Patty. And he's even a 'medical advisor' for pharma/med device backed ACSH.org. He must have been really frosted. It was over MCS that I first found out how he attempts to destroy the lives of wonderful doctors by hounding medical boards to go after their licenses. He proudly brags about this ... I was happy to weren't affected by chemicals like so many of our sisters ... some women told me post-implants they can't be anywhere near a soap aisle in a grocery store without being affected. The chemical industry funds ACSH who funded Barrett to write the piece he's being criticized about. It's all part of his lawsuit against me ... www.BreastImplantAwareness.org/quackbustersvsilena.htm I pray that there are enough of us talking about MCS ... he has boards filled with " MCS is somatization " other of their key denial phrases. Bless you for discovering this ... I even give one point to ACSH (who funds Fumento too unfortunately) for publishing this critique of their own work). > > > > Thanks for this Patty. > > > > The horrible pharma / chemical industry backers from quackwatch go > > after the fine doctors and scientists who are researching this > multi-> faceted syndrome ... > > > > We need more research and they want to stop progress ... > > > > From the damages we've seen in our own women ... we know what we > need > is MORE unbiased, non-chemical industry research ... > > > > Love from Ilena > > > > www.BreastImplantAwareness.org > > >
Guest guest
Lea, I have it too, and I was never implanted. Perfumes have always bothered me, as have chemicals. Guest guest
Why in the world would ANYONE want to take silica tablets? Rogene
Guest guest
I guess I'll throw out my 2 cents for what it's worth.... I think it is so easy for us to be biased against silica because of the negative experiences we have had with silicone, and our perceived association with this substance and disease. We are certainly justified in taking that stance. However, the organic element of silica is truly a necessary component of our body, and is essential for health. Rather than go through all the why's and how's, I'll just post a link with info about that. At the same time, I will admit that perhaps much of this information is biased to sell a product, and that probably more research is needed. I have taken silica in the form of horsetail herb. I did not notice anything terrible from taking it. My theory is this: That the use of silicone in the body is somehow like the use of hydrogenated oils. Oils have been altered through the process of hydrogenation, and been allowed to be incorporated into our bodies through foods. Oils that are hydrogenated are accepted by the body, but they are not healthy. They are called trans-fats, and although they will be incorporated into the human cell membrane, they make the cell membrane rigid instead of flexible. That process of hydrogenation is dangerous, contributes to aging and disease, yet the body will make use of it, because it is there. Slowly the damage is done. Silica has been altered through a process that makes it silicone and is allowed to be in our bodies. Perhaps in the place of silica, the body will use silicone? I don't know. I am merely conjecturing. Perhaps our body just starts reacting to the presence of silicone and the immune system goes beserk. In any case, over time, I think the body is altered by the presence of a man-made substance over a natural one such as silica that is by design necessary for health. If the body develops a bad reaction to silicone, does that mean it will have a bad reaction to silica? Perhaps not. I don't know. By taking silica supplements, perhaps the goal is to allow the body to replace unhealthy mineral substances in our body with the more natural, healthy minerals as found in plant foods. Foods that are high in silica include whole grains, vegetables such as potatoes, green and red peppers, cucumbers, and sprouts, horsetail extract and herbal teas. I would think that if we truly had trouble with silica in all forms, then we would not be able to even eat these foods. It is also noteworthy that there are silica tablets and supplements that are derived from plant food sources, while I've also seen some that state outright that they are from rocks! Quartz! I can't imagine taking a supplement of quartz!!!! Patty http://www.vke-cellfood.com/silica.htm Dr. Edith Carlisle, 1972 recognized Silica as an essential trace mineral. Research has since proven Silica is an absolute requirement in fulfillment of structural and metabolic needs of all plants, animals and humans. Birchall (1995) " Animals are not good bio- available sources for humans. Also, plants grown in Silica deficient soils have a lower Silica content " . Silica stems from a pure mineral crystal source, and more-so than the vegetarian form " Horsetail " has a chemical composition that uniquely assists the metabolizing of Silica in the human alimentary canal. Our CELLFOOD® Silica is this dietary colloidal active formula, ionic, highly dispersed in purified water and CELLFOOD®. 1993, Nobel prize Winner Professor Adolf Butenandt, proved Silicon an essential mineral to sustain life. Silicon is the second most abundant element in the Earths crust. In our body, silicon represents about 0.005% of our body weight. Our body has an essential need for silicon, in the form of " Silica " . Silica is especially needed in the lungs, spleen, lymph nodes, blood and blood vessels, connective tissue, nails, hair, skin, bone cartilage and tendons. Silica loss is visually noticeable first through the dehydrated wrinkling of skin, flabby skin, brittle nails, lifeless hair, female hair loss at any age, and lack of elasticity in the skin, but also within the vascular and skeletal systems and organs. As we partake and witness the destruction of the ozone, air quality, water quality, and food quality of this planet, it is also becoming an undisputed fact that if the human body is going to withstand the effects of its environment, it must do so with powerful antioxidants! In the recent Klaus Kaufmann book, " SILICA The Amazing Gel " , Mr. Kaufmann demonstrates the vital necessity of Silica for longevity and disease prevention. In reference to many diseases, this low profile, but essential mineral proves versatile and effective, time and time again. In the midst of diseases and health problems; brittle nails, hair loss, osteoporosis, degenerative disk disease, arteriosclerosis, coronary artery disease, cancer, diabetes, aging, gastritis, ulcers, recurrent infections, and skin disorders are among the list which can respond favorably to high doses of Silica supplementation. New discoveries now help us prevent bone loss. It's important to stress the relationship from the studies where Silica is concerned. Carlisle (1970) reported Silica plays a vital role in the formation of the bone matrix and connective tissue, exactly where the bone originates, and the most active building site of new or young bone. As calcium is deposited on the bone matrix, Silica is replaced by calcium as the structural mineral. Silica acts like a magnet for calcium. This process involves the forming of a collagen matrix. The two minerals work synergistically. A deficiency in either results in poor bone matrix. Once the mineral matrix is formed, the collagen framework is established to maintain a healthy bone structure. As we age our Silica levels decrease by over 60%, as does calcium absorption. In women over 35, Silica supplementation is recommended to prevent bone decalcification. The craze for Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin D and Phosphorus supplementation has left out one key, base ingredient, SILICA. Although calcium research is extensive, Silica research is still ongoing and under funded. One day we predict that the importance of Silica supplementation will be as wide-spread as calcium and Vitamin C. Doesn't it make sense that to supplement with a good calcium product, one should also supplement with Silica if over 35 years old, and insure the mineral Silica is present so the bone can accept the calcium and finish its job? BACK PAIN Silica also improves the ability of cells to bond with water, and is essential for proper disk and surrounding tissues in the vertebrae, to maintain hydration, preventing pain associated with dehydration. (As the water filled disks become dehydrated, the vertebrae's stack together, get out of alignment, and nerves can get pinched, causing more pain and discomfort). If you have chronic back pain, increasing your water consumption and adding CELLFOOD® Colloidal SILICA may improve your conditions immensely! ARTERIOSCLEROSIS Carlisle (1972) among reporting Silica plays an essential role in bone formation, also reports that inadequate dietary Silica may contribute to arteriosclerosis and hypertension, along with some bone disorders and the aging process. Schwarz (1977) argued that low- Silica-intake was correlated with a high incidence of arteriosclerosis. In his research he found Silica is highly deficient in a diseased heart, especially where calcification has occurred. Carlisle (1974) Loeper et al., (1978) also showed presence of Silica in bone forming cells called " osteoblasts " and in collagen. They observed that the Silica content of these tissues decreased with age and with diseases of these tissues. Louis Pasteur predicted in 1878 " that someday Silica would be found to be an important therapeutic substance for many diseases and would play a significant role in human health and consequent nutrition " . By the early 20th century, reports from Germany & France suggested that Pasteur's prediction would become fact. Included in these reports are successful conclusions in therapeutic treatments of numerous diseases ranging from arteriosclerosis, dermatitis, hypertension and tuberculosis. Further reports supporting the nutritional significance of supplemental Silica : (Mancinella 1991; Seaborn and Nielson 1993; Birchall 1995) Anti-oxidants rid the body of free radicals, by-products of burnt electrons and absorbed toxins. Keeping the body clean insures healthier cells, relieves stress on the immune system and slowing of the aging process. You may prevent disease and illness altogether! MORE VALUABLE INFORMATION . . . . . . . Silica is found in every living substance on earth, and is a vital component to the health and regeneration of human cells. 70% of a birds plumage is silica. In human blood there are 3 forms of silica: 10 percent is water soluble silica, 60 percent binds to albumin bodies and 30 percent binds to fats. Human connective tissue is richest in silica. Silica is nature's building block. Silica is vital for protein synthesis and metabolism. Without proper silica support, cells fatten. In cancer cells, due to oxygen starvation, the cancer cells also fatten. Proper silica support halts this process. The Europeans found the therapeutic healing effects of their natural hot springs, which not surprising, are highly credited to the silica dispersion mineral in those waters that are between 70mg/liter to 400 mg/liter. Therapy with mineral waters is very popular in Europe, and becoming more desired in the US. The famous Dunaris spring water in the German Eiffel has a silica acid content of 80 mg per liter. The Marienbad Forest Spring in Germany - 400 mg of silicic acid per liter. In ancient times they may not have known what the exact components of those waters contained, but they did realize the healing effects they experienced due to their bathing in mineral rich waters. *Remember, Silica is highly bio-available, and easily absorbed through the skin. Silica loss occurs simultaneously with colloidal physical tissue change, specifically in connective tissue. This starts a chain reaction that involves the halting of chrysosis (leucosin), carotenoid synthesis, photosynthetic O2 production, and blocked RNA, chlorophyll, and total protein synthesis. Glutamic acid decreases. Also, fatty acid synthesis increases by 100 percent. This demonstrates how silica is much more important to cell synthesis than simply as a cell wall stabilizer. Silica is vital for new cell growth and healthy cell synergy. Through silica supplementation, cell metabolism can be reactivated, enhancing the cell's ability for duplication, division and new growth. This means that the tissue aging process can not only be slowed down, but actually reversed! Supplementation is highly suggested in maintaining adequate silica levels within the body. > > Why in the world would ANYONE want to take silica > tablets? > > Rogene >
