Guest guest
No you are not alone! I too am new to the group as of this morning.I just completed my first month of pegasys. I know that hypothyroidism is a side effect of interferon and knock on wood I have yet to have any. I am not sure what adrenals are, can you explain?Glad to know that there is support out there, I too feel alone sometimes. How long have you diagnosed with HCV? mari3jacks Hi I am in UK so not sure what Pegasus is? I did have combination tx a few years ago but did not finish and am still positive. HypoT can be caused by HCV, the research is there though I do not have anything to hand. Apparently a lot of the symptoms of HCV are actually due to hypoT and stressd adrenals. Adrenal stress goes hand in hand with chronic infection and are nearly always implicated in HypoT as well. The adrenals are littel triabgular shapes organs that sit on each kidney. They produce various hormones, notably cortisol and adrenaline. They get stressed from emotional stuff and physical illness, toxins, mercury etc. See www.adrenalfatigue.com for more information and www.stopthethyroidmadness.com for info on adrenals and thyroid issues. Guest guest
You are never alone here Mo and yes I also have a hypothyroid but it has been stable for awhile now with the med. I am pat aka ww and will do shot 14 tomorrow night, hopefully tx is helping. I will find out viral load on 11th of this month. Hep C apparently effects a bunch of other systems in our bodies, what kind of adrenal issues do you have? We also have chat on Thurs. evenings hope to see you there, welcome to our family. hugs...ww Thank ww and good luck with your tx. What meds are you taking for your thyroid issues? Do you use Armour? I have been diagnosed with severe adrenal stress with a 24-hour saliva test. Doctors here in the UK do not recognise adrenal problems unless cortisol is extremely high (Cushings Disease they then call it) or when cortisol is on the floor (called 's Disease). The tests are usually blood tests which give an unreliable picture as cortisol levels SHOULD vary throughout the day, being at the highest in the morning and then sloping down throughout the day. A blood test gives only a snapshot therefore. So docs have not been traind (most of the traditional ones anyway) to recognise adrenal stress that is anywhere between these two polarities. Guest guest
Pegasys is one of the brand names for combo tx. Oh I see. Thank you. By the way there was a television programme here in England recently about a 20-year old son who had donated part of his liver to his father who was dying from liver disease. It was successful apparently and they did not state what kind of liver disease was involved. Anything like this going on in the U.S. Mo

Guest guest
may not be from the HCV but are much more common among us than in the regular population. Yes it can be tricky figuring out just what is what I agree. What I have learned is that there are likely to be quite a few heppers who are actually hypothyroid and/or have adrenal stress and that these are going undiagnosed because of the common testing methods i.e. relying on a TSH/T4 test for hypoT and either not testing or using a blood test to test the state of the adrenals instead of the 24-hour saliva test. You say your thyroid is fine. I would be inclined to think that you can only really be sure of that if you have had a full thyroid panel which includes TSH, FT4, FT3 and TWO antibody tests. The FT4 needs to be mid-range at least and the FT3 should be top of the range. If the FT3 is lower than the FT4 (storage hormone) then this indicates that the necessary conversion of T4 into T3 is not happening optimally. Guest guest
Hi, Mo. I, too have hypothyroidism, along with my hcv. Mine is under control with Synthroid. My hcv has been clear since tx 2.5 years ago. I also have pre-diabetes, asthma, migraine, GERD, IBS, RLS & sleep apnea. I’m convinced my pre-diabetes is related to tx. As for the rest, which came first the chicken or the egg? Who knows if all the rest is hcv related or just my luck of the draw. /De HCV+ plus hypothyroid? Hi I am new to the list and I am battling hypothyroidism, adrenals issues and HCV? Am I alone? Mo

PegIntron is the other in the U.S. If those fail, we can go to Infergen, which is often daily injections rather than weekly. Re: Re: HCV+ plus hypothyroid? Hi I am in UK so not sure what Pegasus is? Guest guest
Hi Mo, I'm SuZie. I was diagnosed HCV+ in 1990 but have probably had it since 1969 or 70. My thyroid is fine but I have cirrhosis & can't treat anymore because I'm in ESLD. I also have diabetes(Type 2 but insulin dependent because of my liver), insomnia, sleep apnea & RLS. These may not be from the HCV but are much more common among us than in the regular population. SuZie Motley wrote: Hi, Mo. I, too have hypothyroidism, along with my hcv.
