Has anyone seen Dr. Vivian Burden? (Cambridge UK)

My GP gave me her name as well as referring us to ide Family Consultation Clinic in Cambridge. We are still in the process of getting Jack diagnosed. I not really looking for a Dr to assist in Bio-Med treatment, as I don't really think I'd find an acceptable one. The part of interest to me is that the GP wrote that Dr Vivian Burden's approach is very individual to each child and is very helpful as far as recommendations to the schools.

I know it will be costly, I guess I'm just looking for some input as far as if it is worth the money. If it will really help Jack, money becomes a bit less of an issue.

Thank-you - Jenna

>HI Jenna

Do you live in Cambridgeshire? We have gone through the diagnosis and

statementing process here in Cambridge. Don't know of this Dr but

assume she is not NHS and doing this privately (ide is an NHS

CLinic) Is the reason because of NHS waitlist for diagnosis?

Is she a clinical psychologist or educational psychologist and which

standardised diagnostic tests will she carry out?

I think your GP is deluding himself in thinking anything from a

diagnosis by a clinical psychologist would be borne in mind by the LEA

re education provision. What might be able to influence this, if, say

you had to appeal to tribunal for an appropriate education for your

son, is an educational psychologist's report as this is what the LEA

will put forward from their side and you need to match this with one

from yours (if you get to the stage of threatening tribunal) Allan

Willis is excellent, let me know if you want his details.

If you need a diagnosis pronto, maybe Burden can help. Probably

worthwhile finding out how much she charges and for what. She may

provide more than your average clinical psychologist diagnostician in

Cambridge who observes your child, fails to use any diagnostic tools

and then to justify this says 'the child was resistant to tests'

|'Which tests? says the beleaguered parent. Well, 2 yrs later, we'd

still like to know. Burden might break the mould, and maybe I'm just a

died in the wool cynic.....

Dr Fiona at the ARC (autism research centre ) Trumpington Road

does provide a proper diagnosis with the correct diagnostic tools -

gilliam autism rating, ADOS and RDI which are all recognised by the WHO

and are predicated on standardised diagnostic testing. CDOst: Around

£500. Depends how thorough a diagnosis you need.

E mail me off line rhona@... if you need to find

outmorepApologies if this is a repeat post as we are having teething

troubles with new laptop

Yes, we are in Cambridgeshire - Ely. There is not a big rush, Jack is in reception now and all seems to be going well so far. The GP had given me Dr. Burden's name (yes she's private and has a shorter waiting list) I think just as a personal favor. She said she had a friend who's son had seen her and went through treatment sessions with this Doctor and was very impressed with the results.

She is a Neuropsychologist, based in Trumpington. This is what I found online -

InfoCam- Cambridge Child Consultancy

DetailsDr Vivian Burden is a chartered clinical neuropsychologist (children). Assessment of reading, spelling, language & behaviour difficulties. Assessment of children with developmental difficulties such as A.D.H.D, Asperger Syndrome and acquired brain injury. Supervising individual tuition based on assessment. Medico-legal work. Consultancy to schools, adult assessment and assessment of performance attainment for application to ACCESS funding and tertiary education, adult groups etc.

An answerphone is available at all times. Personal calls taken between 5.30pm-6.30pm.

I guess I just give call and get a feel for what she does, and how much money she wants!

Thanks for your input. I've been in the UK for just 1 year now, so knowing just what hoops to jump through gets a bit confusing. Jack is due to be observed by the educational psychologist next month.
