How to find a safe place

I don't mind moving out of house until it is safe or permanently.

My hesitation is that I haven't the foggiest notion of how to pick a

safe place. My own house is in nice area, smells clean, looks

clean. If I didn't know about attic problem, just discovered, I

would move in here for safety, so here are my thoughts. Doctor said

ideal is to stay out of house until it totally cleaned up, it is

safe. So problem then is how to find a safe place to live in

interim. My idea is to try those extended stay type places, that

you can rent for day, week or month etc or other temporary rental

but ask if you can do a mold culture plate first. If you get the

ones from the Dallas Environmental Clinic, they do their tests on a

30 minute exposure, rather than an hour, so all you have to do is

half hour, then take it home and wait a a few days. If nothing at

all grows, seems it would be safe to assume low amount of mycotoxins

too. I know some people who have used culture plates from Home

Depot and gotten zero growth, so it's possible. I always get

a 'bumper crop' that shows up within a couple of days. Doesn't that

make sense? I know mold and mycotoxins can be separate issue but it

would seem to me if place is clean enough to grow zero mold in a

culture dish, it would be much cleaner than average place.

Only problem I see with using the Dallas plates for testing is cost

of plate includes testing. Home Depot plates have cost of testing

separated out from cost of purchasing plate. So you could use Home

Depot plates just to see if ANYTHING grows. If nothing grows within

a few days, and you wanted to be absolutely sure before making a

commitment you could do the Dallas or Texas Tech plates or some

other type.

If it's one of those extended stay types you could rent for a few

days or a week before making longer arrangements and see " how you

feel there " . Because of course there are other things that can

increase our toxic load besides mold.

Anyone else have any ideas on finding clean housing?

barb, Im glad you got the testing done, the last post you posted

about your stomach hurting like flu symtoms made me think of t-myco's

but I was hopeing it wasn't. I dont know if there will be any easy

ways to find a safe place to stay so many things can affect testing

as you know. besides weather condictions, if these places haven't

been rented lately they may not show any signs of mold until your in

them and vibration and sweeping stirs them up. if you can find

somewhere to pay a week at a time, it may be the best

bet.

-sorry, dont mean to sound short, just not up to typeing a lot. yes,

Im thinking its t-2 myco's that are pretty well known to cause

dierrhea w/blood and the stomach upset with it. if im thinking right

fusarium and stachy can put out t-2 myco's. wasn't it you who had

said your stomach was bothering you but you thought it was more from

mold than mycotoxins? maybe was a different barb.

sorry

No, Jeanine, you were right. It was probably me.

I have considerable digestive problems. Dr

Croft said gi lining is one of most susceptible

parts of body for toxins to damage. Food is not

being absorbed well. My stomach lining looks

okay now but gi tract still having trouble

apparent from blood test, not absorbing nutrients

even though eating well.

A couple years ago when this first started it was

ulcerated but those have cleared up as of a year

ago. I was feeling pretty good this past winter

but summer has brought me down again. Indoor air

people say it is most likely attic air. I knew

there was some problem up there but didn't know

it could get down into house. I think it is

around chimney, so I'm moving out to temporary

housing and get work done. Probably pitch

carpeting and drapery and fabric furniture. Hell

I'm moving eventually anyway, so might as well

start to clear furniture out now. There are

antiques in the house. I'm going to put them into

storage units until I can have time to go

through. I will pick a nice day, wear protective

clothing and spend a hour here and there going

through it, including important papers, tax

records, etc and make copies of anything

important and throw any originals away.

While I'm out of the house, will have repairs

done, carpet removed, etc. I know I'm fine here

in the winter. I felt fine since I can open the

fresh air intake.
