Guest guest
Hi Barb E, I have similar experiences and am trying to figure them out. These are my guesses for myself: One you may not have been paying attention. My great aunt was previous owner of my house. I used to notice an odor that reminded me of cigar box when I came up her basement steps into her house (we always came through basement since garage was down there and so out of garage, through basement, was way into house). I loved the smell. I like the smell of cigars too. I loved my aunt, loved her house and so to me it was the smell of my greataunt's house. HOWEVER then I got sick cleaning up the place and I began to realize cigar smell in stairway probably wasn't a smell to love and may be mildew or something. I vigorously cleaned up house, put in fresh air intake, etc, etc. One time coming in house and going up steps I smelled SOMETHING. It didn't smell fresh and I stopped and realized that is same smell house always used to have, so now smell had alarmed me. I stopped and wonder what that was because I've been harmed by the smelly stuff in the house. Okay, maybe that isn't it. I notice now that I have super cleaned up my house, I notice odor when I go out that I didn't use to notice or take note of. It could be my 'smeller' is used to fresher air, so other air smells nasty to me. Final possibility and one I hope isn't true. You could have a 'bit' of MCS, become sensitized to odors due to mold exposure. I noticed I went into Biggs supermarket to get ONE thing! As soon as I enter I was hit by this TERRIBLE smell of what smelled to me of 'spoiling meat'. I was repulsed and considered leaving right away but needed one thing I didn't know where else to get so I persevered. I went passed an ailse that was full of plastic tubs and had this awful STRONG chemical smell. I've smelled plastic before but this was VERY STRONG - may be because they had so much of it. I considered leaving again. I thought 'what is going on?' I turned around to look at others, to see how they were reacting, looking for that 'group experience' of being offended by the odor, but noone seemed phased in the least, and just strolling slowly along the aile. I rushed to pick up my one item and to leave but after leaving building I vomited, so really affected by it!!! I later vomited again at next stop on errands and so went home. I was newly on CSM at time and blamed vomiting on that. I still don't know was it odor or CSM. I hardly ever do that. I was very sick. I haven't been back to Biggs. I had only been there once before that but didn't notice anything on previous trip there but that was a couple years ago. So, I could have become more sensitive to smells due to mold exposure and health problems. Maybe there WAS alot of bacteria in air at Biggs due to all the meat they have there and I couldn't take it, being sick already. So my answer to your friends would be 'I don't know'. They shouldn't question your experience anyway. --- Barbara <floridabound03200@...> wrote: > Every time I walk into the apartment building > where I > live, I can smell a moldy/musty odor. Guest guest
I know that I cannot aways trust my nose, sometimes its oversensative and other times I cant smell anything, but still have the reactions. I have noticed that even with some less reactive enviroments my nose becomes quickly stuffed up and my voice changes to that stuffed up sound like holding your nose. I also know that if I dont wash my sinuses this can bring on a sinus headacke or infection.I've been through what your talking about too. I thought it may depended on the same condictions that cause a mold air test shows different amounts at different times. the weather, if mold is wet, or growing, or dry, if theres a draft stirring things up, etc. I haven't been out to my 2nd. home for a while but theres times I know, that you can smell it from outside the home, and times you cant. so I'm guessing it might have something to do with what the mold is doing. I also relate hotter and more humid weather to a more stronger smell. > > > Every time I walk into the apartment building > > where I > > live, I can smell a moldy/musty odor.
