Hello, all :)

My name is Alicyn, and I joined this group the other night. I know

some very basic and primitive stuff about crafting fragrances; I know

that they are comprised of : top notes, middle/heart notes and base

notes. I also know why some scents are different notes, due to the

evaporation process, and how some " notes " evaporate a lot faster than

others. I have quite a nose, and I want to begin

crafting my own perfume oils.

I've read, on various sources, that it can take YEARS to figure this

stuff out. I just want to make some basic scents that have a unique

kick to them - specialising in dark blends ... " Gothic " if you will (I

hate that term :D). On the other hand, I've read stories where it

didn't take even a year to learn this stuff. Is there any truth to

either of these ? I guess everyone's learning processes/speeds are

different, and I don't expect to learn this stuff overnight.

I've looked online quite a few times, to find a complete and

comprehensive list of all the top, middle/heart and base notes and

maybe I'm missing something ? Is there any good books out there that

actually dive into how to craft your own fragrances, instead of just

following some recipes in a soap-making book ? (hahaha, I seriously

fell for a few of those books before :D)

I'm sure there are other people on here that make perfume oils, yes ?

I'm reading about the very basics of doing this, online, and I'd love

to learn more.

Thank you for your time, and sorry for asking so many questions in my

first post :)
