Hey everyone... I am a really bad bored eater. If i am home, I am constantly

wanting something in my mouth, or something to " munch " on... I've always been a

muncher, basically. It isn't just around my period that I get the munchies...

it's everyday. I need to KICK this " sweet/munchie " tooth. Anyone have any tips

on how I can start kicking this? I am going to try and not have any sweets on

my " free " day because that just starts a downfall for the week... but I can just

about justify any thing I eat, lol. Like if I eat ONE hershey kiss, I say " it's

just my one sweet for the day " ...

I just need some advice as to how I can kick this munchie/sweet tooth. Any

tips!?!? Thanks gals!

Take care,

this is sorta substituting, but can you try chewing gum when you

start to feel like you want to munch? or drink LOTS of water to make

yourself feel full and therefore not want to munch?

My trick... I tell EVERYONE to slap me if I go for any snacks.

For instance, yesterday, I ate WAY to much junk. I actually was

sick, moody and massivley irritable and sweaty all cuz I ate like 2

HUGE home baked cookies and Easter candy. Last night I swore

everything off for 3 days. So, I came to work with that attitude and

mentioned it to a couple close co workers... now, I CAN'T screw up

in front of them-I will look stupid. ;)

Do I love to torture myself or what?

For me its not really boredom that starts the munchie thing, it

usually is the transition time between work and not work time. In

the past, this usually signaled the happy hour grazing and wine

time. I have tried just employing willpower, but I just don't know

what to do about this transition time. For the most part, its

usually time to just sit down and eat a meal, but its still feeling

weird. I am trying to have faith that the new habit will take

hold. I think you're making great strides just being aware of

wanting to put stuff in your mouth. take a breath, remember that you

have made a decision to NOT eat sweets or to eat unconsciously,

remember the commitment, it will still feel weird for awhile, but

try to have faith that you have what it takes to get past it.

you are anting reward yourself and celebrate for the work day being

over.

Find something else that makes you very happy that work is over the

day -- some other way to comfort of snuggle or celebrate -- or

whatever the mood calls for.

I agree, it's nice to have the support, Carley.

I am " working " at home, but my kids are definately on my support team.

I was honest. I said, " Do you want me to be healthy and energetic? "

They said, " YES " .

I said, " I need your help. " :) The list is still evolving, but for now,

I know I can count on them to;

-clear their own plates from the table (so I don't eat the leftovers)

-not beg for sweets/fats when we are checking out while shopping

-keep their " TEMPTING " food out of my path

-share one bite with me when I ask for it

-go for walks with me

-say, " Good job, Mom! " when I walk " laps " around the playground at the

park instead of sit on the bench.

-say, " You are doing great " when I get up and march while watching a

movie at home instead of lay on the sofa with the family

-not interrupt me when I am online for BFL support purposes

-watch an educational video while I listen to a BodyChangers interview

-go swimming with me

-sleep while I get up early to HITT or workout

-understand that our family doesn't " love " eachother with big servings

of greasy/sweet food.

-enjoy giving and receiving handrubs, hugs, compliments, and hugs

instead of greasy/sweet food

I am a better mom, worker, friend and wife when I take time to take

good care of myself.

I am stronger than any bag of cookies or candy bar.

I eat like an athlete to feel like an athlete. (more so each day)

I eat like a diabetic to AVOID diabetes :)

Be strong,

M.

Wow, it sounds like you have an excellent support system at home-

what wonderful kids! (and your husband seems supportive too!)

thankfully my husband is supportive-he thinks I am crazy-but well,

heck, I am! It's MY hobby and he realizes this (no kids yet... but

when we do, I hope to have the nurturing, warm home you seem to have)

Ad, this board is SO great as far as bouncing questions, reading

positive messages, and just getting an all around pick me up.

Il ike it: Eat like an athlete to feel like an athlete ;)

I get great support from this board too. Even the archived messages

are informative and inspiring.

Thanks for the compliments, Carley, but I must confess I only told you

about the good things :) Family life has its ups and downs like the

rest of life. Mostly, they are supportive and mostly, I am

appreciative :)

Has your husband read the BFL book or seen one of the Bill

videos? They sold my husband on the BFL lifestyle.

Be strong,

M.

Thanks for the link.... my biggest downfall is if I go two or three days without

eating sweets, I can justify in my mind " okay, this hershey kiss is okay cuz

you've done sooo good the past few days " and then it opens the flood gate to all

the other goodies, lol. So... I just have to cold turkey it and stop eating

sweets, at least for a while... I might have a treat here or there on free day,

but nothing big. If I still want the hershey kiss that I wanted yesterday on

Sunday, then I'll have it, ha ha. :-)

Thanks for all the tips!

If you're an emotional eater, the " I'll never eat sweets again " thing

usually goes horribly wrong. Most of the time it sets you up for more

bingeing and another failure. Plan your chocolate intake just like you

plan your workout. Stick to the plan and you'll start feeling more

confident and in control. Once you're feeling stronger and seeing some

results, then it will be much easier to back off on the sweets and

really go for it.

It's mainly a mental thing. If you plan to eat sweets six times a day,

it takes all the fun out of it. After just a couple of days, you're

usually sick of sugar, eager for faster results, and really looking

forward to eating some chicken and grapes.
