Guest guest
i will play your opposite, for the sake of discusion (just don't look at my spelling)...i love the sensuality of solids, altho they don't stay around long. i haven't used alcohol much except recently, but i want the experience of being a versitile artisan, so i dabble with it and become pleasantly surprised. i do agree with your last statement, tho...if YOU consider it a non-issue, then it shouldn't become one. Guest guest
Okay, since I am a loud mouth and generally the one in a corner on any board, I've got to say something...........I sooooooooooooo want to use everclear and vodka. And I have used the vodka and eo's as a replacement for lysol..........but I have a 12 stepper in the family and I cant risk bringing that in.........yikes. It would be sooooooooo much cheaper for me to do that in place of using artisans alcohol......I did sneak in the vodka and made a bunch of things with it and trashed the bottle and it was found and the look I got was precious like 'omg, I finally drove her to it'.............LOL! Good part is, whats in my sprays and tinctures etc has herbs and oils and all sorts of things and the party in question doesn't know which is vodka or which is alcohol or even if there is a blend of both (no I don't blend them but I do allude to that fact heh heh). I really don't want to use rubbing alcohol of any kind. It stinks . I just don't like the smell. er.....anonymously somebody you don't know nor have ever heard of or ever will again

Hi Evie, Why not put something in the Everclear as soon as you get it in the house, so that your 12-stepper won't be able to drink it? I have grape perfumer's alcohol that was denatured (rendered icky-tasting) with lavender oil. But you can denature it with other stuff. Like hyraceum. (And who would EVER want to drink something that had petrified rodent-doo in it? It smells like the elephant house at the zoo.) Oh -- there are a lot of choices for you to use. You could even divide your Everclear into smaller bottles and denature each with a different ingredient so you wouldn't be tied to having, say, lavender in every one of your perfume blends... (That's me all over -- insisting that there's always a way to think yourself out of any corner...) Also - have you ever put Everclear on your tongue? It is A-1 nasty. Like to burn a hole right through your tongue. I tried about a teaspoon of it years ago and nearly croaked it was so awful. Hope this helps! I'm an Everclear 190 via filter user... In addition to allergy problems, I think some folks have drying skin or other dermal problems with alcohol...... Now....if yer selling stuff, ya probably have to disclose what's in it, to a certain degree...Since alcohol makes up a probably large part of whatever you are selling, it would have to be listed... Should the question come up, I would point out that the organic alky you're using isn't the denatured stuff that that the mainstream perfume industry typically uses...One less possibly irritating chemical or set of chemicals...... Mind ya....I'm not selling my things....but when I gift them I point that my alky was drinkable.....Uhhhhhh....you need a strong windipe and a certain amount of foolhardiness to do so....before I added whichever to it..... Guest guest
I was reading an article today whilst sitting at my hair dressers. This subject came up in one of their articles. It was talking about how to wear your perfume. It basically said that our olfactory senses are so inundated with fragrances all around us that subtlety is best. A lot of offices are now going with a no fragrance policy, etc. But one way to get around that is instead of using perfumes that you have to spray such as those with an alcohol base to instead go with those that are solid or oil based. It went on to give the consumer tips on how to wear solid and oil based perfumes to their full advantage. It also talked about how natural perfumes were so much better. So, I don't think people are unfounded and ill-informed, but that articles such as these are marketing towards the consumers. In a way you can take advantage of it and play to that crowd who will like and purchase perfumes made that way and then there will be those who still want the alcohol based perfumes. But, it was a good, well written article and made me pause to think of different marketing strategies. Thank you for your insightful post. I want to point out that fractionated coconut oil works fine in an atomizer.

Guest guest
Well, what works best for you but I learned the hard way that what I felt was best was not as cool to others .......sigh.........I'll do a scented lotion, most people or females use lotion, if their general soaps, lotions, shampoos and conditioners are in sync with that then all things are sympatico to me. I do like a spray if on clothing but I am often amazed at what other people want vs what's good imho and what form. Right now , tho people know I try to keep natural (I have both natural products and 'compromise' items) and sadly the latter is what makes the money. drat. Another thing to consider is also skin type. Oily vs Dry in what form works best. If I recall oily skin does better with an alcohol base and dry with an oil base........dont quote me on that, I'm sure others know which is which. I haven't made any perfume in a long while and am simply trying to design one in memory of my daughter , the proceeds going towards the ARDS foundation.....I am not even near what I like so far. and I'm never going to smell like a pumpkin....grrrrrrrr (I am soooooooo not going there) and its just not natural to begin with and goofy to smell like something I'd rather eat. what next 'bacon'? Hee hee! There's a local joke gift shop here that sells band-aids that look like a strip of bacon and they smell like bacon too. And they also make bacon-flavored breath mints. Ours are for internal use, not perfumes, but we do use the best quality available- 95% from Biodynamically-grown grape wine for most of our line, and organic grain for the lower-priced ones. I respect that many people choose not to ingest any alcohol at all for many reasons that are deeply held and well thought-out, if someone says they have a religious or recovery reason, I don't push the issue at all. But for most of the people that are averse to it, it's really just weird paranoia and bad understanding of science and allergens. I don't know if my usual reply to the paranoid helps with perfumery sales, too, but I usually point out how much alcohol is naturally in so many things. So, if someone says, I can't try that, I am " allergic " to alcohol, or alcohol makes me ill, etc., I point out that there is more alcohol in a ripe banana than in a dose of my medicines. Many people are surprised by that & realize that since they eat bananas without ill effect, maybe I'm not trying to poison them after all! Maybe translatable to topical use somehow? -leavesofjoy / Micah www.al-kemi.com

Guest guest
Hi , It was something called Lucky or Lucky You? I'm really not much of a magazine reader, but it had some decent articles in it. It was basically a fashion magazine that wasn't so crazy as most are. I like the Real Simple type of magazine, but also like to see what some of the neat and new things are out there that isn't all about celebrity. It was interesting enough that I actually thought of looking at the magazine aisle today while grocery shopping to see if I could find a copy! But, I forgot. LOL!
