Guest guest
Bill, Thank you. I noticed the meters you are looking at are without the pins. Do you know if the invasive meters, with the pins will measure a greater depth and or if they are more sensitive to moisture? I am assuming the puncture size is less than the size of a small nail. I am at a complete loss in understanding the different types of moisture meters and all that is involved with them. Guest guest
Off the subject but I never saw froogle google. I assume that is for discount shopping?? I'm interested in this topic also. --- Bill Kingsbury <b.b.bb@...> wrote: > > http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Extech+Moisture+Meter+MO300 > http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Protimeter+Aquant+Moisture+Meter > http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Tramex+Moisture+Encounter+Plus > > Bill >
Guest guest
, I have used several different types of meters to measure moisture content and the Tramex encounter is the best. It's only drawbacks are that it can't get into a space less than about four inches or take readings on surfaces that are flat for about that width by about six inches. Moisture meters are tricky to use. They measure conductivity so concealed metal (like a drywall corner bead) or dissolved salt (from the ocean or urine)can make surfaces appear wet when they are dry. The moisture content of surfaces also varies with relative humidity (RH) so wood that is " dry " might appear damp in high humidity. (A very rough rule of thumb for wood: divide the RH by 5 to get the approximate expected moisture content.) For drywall, you must compare different surfaces: known dry with suspected wet. It takes a fair amount of practice to use moisture meters correctly. C. Guest guest
Does anyone know if these meters simply measure resistance? (wet objects are often electrically conductive, in proportion to their salt and moisture content, however, the resistances are high, so a very sensitive meter with input amplification is probably required.)
