Guest guest
Hi everybody, I am sorry I have been lurking for a while, but I do read quite a bit of the posts. By the way, I agree that Tiger Balm is good stuff. I buy it at WalMart in the states. Didn't know about the pump, though. I tried the adhesive tiger balm patch once, but never found them again. Does it come in a non-stinky form? Just wondering. A quick update for me now. I have successfully weaned off steroids and methotrexate since last fall. I remain on Kineret injections and on Arava as well as other pain meds and such. I was so excited that I began to work to strengthen my atrophied quadracept that had withered away on my left leg since my last patella realignment in 2002. This was the third such surgery on my knee, and it didn't work. Consequently the knee was very unstable and prone to dislocating. I was feeling pretty good last month, and on a certain warm day I walked two miles! The knee cap tried to dislocate three times on that walk, but everytime I grabbed my husband or a tree or something and recovered before I fell. You see, I got to choose where we would travel on our upcoming 12th wedding anniversary, and I chose Colorado and Pikes Peak. I wanted to use that as a goal to work toward strenthening my left leg. Well, the day after the walk I was at home with my family and the patella dislocated as I walked across the living room. There was nothing nearby to grab and I fell hard onto a table and the floor. A subsequent visit to a new Orthopaedic Surgeon found that the patella is 1.5 inches too low now and is sitting at a Q angle of 29%...normally that angle from the hip bone to the shin or tibia shouldn't be greater than 15%. To make a long story short, I am going into the hospital wednesday for a pretty complicated surgery. It is called: A distal and proximal realignment with a tibia tubercle osteotomy. The are cutting my shin bone and realigning it with my hip in order to keep my patella in place. It is totally crooked now, so I really can't see any other solution. I need to walk! I will be in the hospital for a couple of days, an imobilizer for a couple weeks until the incision heals, and then in a cast for 6-8 weeks from my hip to my ankle. I am getting nervous, but I feel good about the surgeon and this procedure. Again I am sorry I have been lurking and not speaking up more. I'll be on and off the computer for a while. Take care, my friends. AND STAY HEALTHY
